If you’re a Metallica fan from days gone by, specifically before the ‘Black’ album was ever available, you’re fully aware of the legacy that is Cliff Burton, the original badass bass player if there ever was one. (No offense to Ian Kilmister or Les Claypool)

Today marks the 26th anniversary of Cliff’s death back in 1986.

1. Cool to see all the dudes up front and not hiding behind drum kits or amps.

2. It really looks like the band and the fans are really enjoying themselves

3. It was filmed in an extremely picturesque amphitheatre in Colorado called ‘Red Rocks’ near a town by Morrison

There will be 2 editions of the new album, one deemed a deluxe issue which boasts interviews, unreleased tracks and several videos while the plain jane effort is just that. If you’ve ever been fired up for a concert and walked away because it didn’t live up to your expectations, I know how you feel. Cue Weyburn, SK and their arena because that’s where I traveled to see Volbeat, a band I’ve been very excited about for a couple of years. My first opportunity to witness them live was less than stellar as I blame the sound-dude, not the band. Unless you’re familiar with Volbeat’s repatoire, it was Mission: Impossible to understand what the guys were singing about. Immerse yourself underwater with cotton in your ears while your favorite band plays on the otherside of a brick wall with their speakers filled with mud and you get the general idea of how things sounded for the Volbeat gig.

So I haven’t decided what I think of Foxy Shazam and after witnessing their latest video, the verdict is still out although I can appreciate their stellar dance moves and the singer-dude has got some interesting mic moves.

It’s four minutes of video that’ll have you questioning if these guys are the real deal or not.

If you’ve ever picked up the guitar, there’s a good chance one of your first tunes learned was Smoke On The Water, courtesy of Deep Purple.

Yesterday, co-founder, Jon Lord, passed away to that %$^& of a disease we call cancer. No only was Jon Lord responsible for helping perfect rock and roll, he played an integral role, if not the KEY role in making that Hammond organ sound popular within the circles of rock.

I never knew the guy but he’s missed already. Fortunately, his legacy lives on through his music.
