A week ago today the Flames, after aborting a 2-day respite in Northern California, tip-toed back home following a 6-1 drubbing in San Jose.

Early Friday am they touched down back home with a 1-0 victory in Colorado, a most happy bunch.

It was the second win over the Avs in 3 days and while both were close to the final minute,they were thorough wins by Mike Keenan’s crew.

It also clinched the Flame season series over the Avs.  A significant feat considering just the 2nd series triumph over Colorado in 10 years.

Despite gloomy stretches, the Flames concluded their first quarter of the season with 4 more points than a year ago despite playing 2 more games on the road this time.

The 23 pts is one less than the 20-game mark in 2005-06 which was the season the Flames won the NW Division pennant.

Now the 2nd quarter commences with a major challenge on Saturday night.  A visit from the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.

The Wings show no signs of a Cup hangover having lost just 2 games in regulation out of 18 games.
