Canada locked up two places for the Men’s Marathon at the London Olympics this weekend at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Reid Coolasaet of Hamilton, Ont. and Eric Gillis of Antigonish, NS have both qualified after finishing third and fourth at the event on the streets of downtown Toronto. Coolasaet ran a personal best of 2:10.55, and Gillis finished in 2:11.28 – just ONE SECOND better than the standard he needed to meet to guarantee a spot at next summer’s Olympics.
The training partners, who run out of the Speed River Track Club in Guelph, now have their sights set on London as Canada’s first representatives in the sport since the 2000 games in Sydney.
