After doing all of the extensive math earlier today, I can now say with certainty that if the Maple Leafs end up falling to the Bruins tomorrow night in regulation time, they will be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. This will mark the third straight year this has happened and while the Leafs have played well as of late, it all comes towards the tail end of the year.
Paul Maurice says it took them roughly 40 games to figure out how to play defensively this season and while that is definitely part of it, other factors have also come into play (injuries, offensive output, etc…)
Nik Antropov should make is return to the lineup Thursday after a knee injury has kept him out for the last week and a half with a knee injury. He says he should be good to go so long as he doesn’t feel any pain in the morning skate.
Mats Sundin is less certain about his return for Thursday, but much like Antropov he will take the skate and if he feels up to it, he’ll give it a go.
Leafs Break Ground on New Practice Facility.
The Maple Leafs along with the Lakeshore Lions Club, Hockey Hall Of Fame, The City Of Toronto, Hockey Canada and the Toronto District School Board put the first shovel in the ground of what will be the new Lakeshore Lions Arena. Unlike the current facility which has just the 1 rink, the new complex will have 4. Hockey Canada will hold their regional offices in the new facility and one of the rinks will be of the olympic dimensions. The $33.65 Million dollar project will be just down the street from the current arena, and is expected to be completed in time for the Leafs training camp in 2009.
