The Penguins continue to be active on Thursday, this time signing a pair of ex-Islander wingers. They lost Ryan Malone and Marian Hossa and needed to add a pair of wingers to play alongside Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Neither Satan nor Fedotenko are near the caliber of the two departed Penguins, nowhere near Hossa in fact. Satan has seen his goal total drop from 35 to 27 to 16 over the past three seasons. There’s no doubt he’s on the decline, but the Penguins obviously feels he has a bit of gas left in the tank. He was demoted to the Islanders’ 3rd and 4th lines during parts of last season, but was still third on the team in total points which tells more about the Islanders lack of goal scoring more than anything.

Fedotenko on the other hand is a relatively reliable winger who can play in front the net and score a few goals. He scored both of the Lightning’s goals in game 7 of the 2004 Stanley Cup final to help guide Tampa Bay to a 2-1 win. He was very good during that run, scoring 12 goals in 22 playoff games. The 29 year old Ukrainian played on a line with Vinny Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis for much of his time in Tampa and should get the opportunity to play with either or both of Crosby and Malkin in Pittsburgh.
