Mooseheads beat Saint John Sea Dogs, finally
The Halifax Mooseheads had lost 12 straight games to the Saint John Sea Dogs but the Herd finally broke the ominous streak Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win at Metro Centre.
Matthew Boudreau, who was a game-time decision, put the Mooseheads on the board with two goals. The second a beautiful four-way passing play on the power play.
Saint John’s Tomas Jurco put the Sea Dogs on the board in the second period. But Martin Frk, who returned to the ice Friday after being sidelined with a concussion all season, scored the Mooseheads’ third goal. Frk was thrown right into a tough stretch in the season, playing three goals in three games.
Dannick Gauthier made it a nail-biter, scoring his 31st goal of the season with 56 seconds to go to make it a one-goal game.
Sea Dogs coach Gerard Gallant was ejected from the game with just seconds to go after getting upset that the faceoff was coming outside the Mooseheads zone.
Rookie Nathan MacKinnon remained out of the lineup with a shoulder injury, he’s listed as day-to-day. Meanwhile fellow rookie Jonathan Drouin was in the building, he’ll play Tuesday night at Metro Centre against the Bathurst Titan at 7 p.m.
