Mooseheads lost in OT

November 5th, 2011

The Mooseheads got an early lead but it was the Moncton Wildcats that got the last laugh, scoring the winner in overtime to win 2-1 Friday night at Metro Centre.

Mooseheads captain Cameron Critchlow gave the big crowd something to cheer about early with a wrap around goal just 1:11 into the game.

But the Mooseheads came out flat in the second period and Alex Saulnier was able to tie it up.

Both teams had trouble getting shots on net with the total shots 24-20 in favour of the Wildcats.

It was the Wildcats’ James Melindy who picked up the OT winner 3:23 into the extra frame.

The Mooseheads wore special Navy sweaters and honoured the Canadian Forces in a pre-game ceremony including leaving a section of 158 seats empty to honour Canada’s fallen soldiers in Afghanistan.

Next game is Sunday afternoon against the Val-d’Or Foruers, a team the Mooseheads beat twice on the road last weekend, game time is 2 p.m.
