A few changes for the Q
Some changes are coming this season to the QMJHL after the league’s Board of Governors meeting Friday.
The league must come up with new protocols to educate teams and players about hits to the head.
“The Board of Govenors made it very clear that player safety must be at the forefront of the discussions,” said QMJHL Commissioner, Gilles Courteau.
There is no word, however, on whether the league will introduce any new rules.
One thing that was announced Friday is there will be a few more referees on the ice this season. All games this season will have four officials on the ice. Previously only some of the games had two referees and two linesmen on the ice.
“This is a great initiative, especially in regards to player safety,” said the Director of Officiating, Richard Trottier. “The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is the best development league in the world and with the speed of today’s game we needed to adapt. This is excellent news for our teams, our players and our fans.”
