Cuts at camp
The Halifax Mooseheads are closer to their final roster after a couple of cuts at camp.
Cam Russell announced Monday morning that forward Mike Malloy and goaltender Marc-Olivier Daigle have been cut. Also free agent goaltender Brad Fraser left camp voluntarily.
The departure of Daigle and Fraser leaves a three-way battle among 16-year-old Zachary Fucale, 20-year-old Frederic Piche and 18-year-old Anthony Terenzio for the job in nets.
The team also has a couple of 20-year-olds to trim, with forwards Cameron Critchlow, Travis Randell and Alexandre Grenier, defenceman Jonathan Parisien and goaltender Frederic Piche.
The team can only carry three and it’s likely Grenier and Critchlow will grab two of the spots — and loyalty may garner Randell the final spot if he continues to play well at camp.
Also, up until the weekend, 20-year-old Andrew Wiggington was on the training camp roster, however the team says he participated in a few intrasquad games but wasn’t on the official training camp roster. That leaves the Mooseheads with 29 players at training camp with a little more than two weeks left until the season opener.
