MacKinnon, Frk shine in preseason game

The Mooseheads got off to an exciting start Saturday at the Halifax Forum eventually cruising to a 4-1 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the first pre-season game of the year.

Nathan MacKinnon (22) in front of the net following a scoring chance

The Screaming Eagles opted to leave their veteran defenseman on the sidelines and the all Midget AAA blueline had trouble containing the explosive first line of Martin Frk and Nathan MacKinnon.

The two teamed up for the first goal of the afternoon, with Frk potting a goal off a slick MacKinnon pass in front of the net.

Trey Lewis followed the goal up with one of his own, an absolute rocket from the point. Halifax native Ryan Falkenham showed his skills with a nifty backhand close to the net to make it 3-0 and Matt Boudreau rounded out the scoring for the Herd.

Goaltending duties were split between  Anthony Terenzio and Zach Fucale split. Fucale left the game midway with a shutout – he wasn’t tested often but stood tall when needed. The lone Screaming Eagles goal was  a shot from the point to the top corner that made it past a screened Terenzio.
