MacKinnon impresses at first intrasquad game

On a warm summer night fans packed into Cole Harbour Place to get their first glimpse of Nathan MacKinnon — and he didn’t disappoint.

Skating on a line with Alexandre Grenier (picked up from Lewiston in the dispersal draft) and fellow rookie Alexandre Sills (5th round draft pick this year), MacKinnon scored once and set up the three other goals in a 4-1 team red victory.

MacKinnon also potted a nice goal in the post-game shootout where all players got a chance at the net.

“We’ve got everything, there’s tension, there’s excitement, there’s nervousness so it all makes for a very entertaining training camp,” says General Manager Cam Russell.

There are two more intrasquad games — Thursday and Friday. Game time is 7pm and doors open at 5:30pm.

The team’s first pre-season game is 4pm Saturday at the Halifax Forum against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
