Has there been any talk of implementing the Hawkeye technology now used in tennis and cricket?

MW: No, but how awesome would that be?

It's funny you keep talking bout "ZIPPY"'s inability to field the bunt cleanly but then you use the word alleged when saying he was safe at first. Sure, he butchered it a bit but 9 times out of 10 you still get that call at first. When they walked Hamilton, I was looking to maybe load them up by walking Young. it is a day later though and I am forgetting who was coming to the plate after Young.

"but Rzepczynski went to barehand it when he had more than enough time to make a proper play with the glove, and as a result couldn’t get a good grip and wound up throwing wild to first, allegedly pulling Adam Lind off the bag"

His mistake was that he was thinking about going to second to get the lead runner, he even looked that way which is why he barehanded it. If he had of focused on first he would have not tried to speed things up and barehand it. In any case it was all on RZEP this time. With the exception of RZEP Frasor and Dotel (lately) the bullpen needs serious attention. They are in desperate need of someone that can come in and strike guys out and get some outs.

MW: I don't think that would be enough.

Hi Mike, do you know who will be coming up to start in Reyes' spot? Also, with Villanueva reaching career highs in IP, we might need 2 starters from the minors now? Understood that Villanueva has done extremely well as a starter, but has the team thought about moving him back to help out in the 'pen (even as a closer!) to limit his innings instead of shutting him down completely?

MW: I don't know if they've considered that, it's not a bad idea. I would think that Jesse Litsch will come up in Reyes' spot, but it could be Zack Stewart or Brad Mills.

I suspect that you and Farrell are the only people who would not have walked Andrus; but then you guys believe in going against baseball logic.
Jo Jo Reyes made the team as a reliever, was cast as a starter when starters started going down. Now that he's failed as a starter, should he not be sent back to the bull pen?
Finally, why are they force-feeding Lawrie into 3rd base when there is an obvious place for him at 2nd base?

MW: Jo-Jo Reyes made the team as a starter, I'm not sure where you got the information to the contrary. I'm pretty sure baseball logic states you don't bring one of the best hitters in the league to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the 9th up a run if you can help it. And Lawrie isn't being force-fed third base, he's actually a good fit there. He wasn't a good second baseman, that's why he was moved off the position.

You're dead right that the arguments don't hold up to scrutiny. Of course the other argument that doesn't hold up is your contention that it isn't time to spend money. If you were to add the wins from even two thirds of the blown saves to the Jays' record, where would they be in the standings? A lot closer to the goal they need to achieve with the revamped playoff format and showing SOME commitment to any free agent that thinks about signing here. So far Rogers has shown no sign of really wanting to win. I don't blame John or Corey or even Marc. The game should never have come to the point where you can't close it out effectively. Period!

MW: If you were to add the wins from two-thirds of the blown saves, the Jays would be three games out. But if you take away two-thirds of the Jays' wins off blown saves this year while you're doing that, they'd be 6 1/2 games out. But who is the free-agent closer who was sitting out there in the off-season for the Jays to snap up?

I was prepared to write this season off as a season of development. Sadly, what I have seen this season tells me we are no where close to being ready to contend next season either. I hope Farrell and AA are learning from mistakes made this season. Defence is important. You build a solid bullpen from the closer down, not the other way around. Lawrie needs to get MLB at bats this season! Snider needs to play everyday along with Thames. Thames need major league coaching to improve his outfield play. Perez needs to be brought back up and found a role, I liked what I saw from him. I am not a Lowen believer but I would prefer him as a back up over Patterson. Drabek can learn some humility getting pounded in the offence happy PCL before we see him back here.

Changes are required and will be coming soon. Or at least I can only hope!

Mike,
At least this much is clear: the position players seem to be in place for '12 [not so fast there, Aaron Hill!], but the pitching is a fish-shambles. Brandon Morrow, Zep, and Frasor are excluded [Romero gets a pass even though I think he'll end up under .500 and top out at 13-14 wins and that's not ace-like even on a rebuilding team.] but the rest AA has to jettison and make key decisions on the minor league talent as most of the projected top talent simply hasn't panned out.

MW: I can't believe you would hold Romero's won-lost record against him.
