    2-3-2 or 2-2-1-1-1?

MW: Game 5 tonight is in the same place as Game 4 was. I like the 2-2-1-1-1 better, though.

I was actually asking what sequence would provide the more exciting double-play. But okay, that’s fine.

MW: 2-2-1-1-1 would be an awesome double play.

zobrist can play defense just as good as gross, no need for gross. hinske has more power. it was a big mistake not having hinske on the roster. at least he could have been used as a pinch hitter

MW: You should talk to Andrew Friedman.

Mike – I just figured out who Carlos Pena looks like. He’s a dead ringer for Steven St. Croix (don’t pretend you don’t know who he is).

You put their pictures side by each, I defy you to tell the difference.

MW: I don’t know who that is.

Would it not be something if this game gets called when it’s tied 2-2 and the weather doesn’t let them play again tonight….what would happen then?

MW: Then they finish it tomorrow.

What happens if tonight’s is called while it is tied?

    MW: Suspended game, resumed tomorrow.

    who is andrew friedman?

and yes mike, I spoke to upton on the weekend and he told me he wants his homer bat back.

MW: He’s the GM of the Rays.

Is carl crawford not a free agent? I think he’s been here 6 years, should be a fa soon. He’d be perfect addition to the jays. how much do you think he’d command?

MW: Crawford is under contract with cheap club options for next year and the year after.

Would there be any chance that the umps call the game and give Philly the World Series because of rain?

    MW: Nope.

MLB should be ashamed of themselves for playing a World Series game in conditions like these. It should have been called in the 3rd inning.

MW: It wasn’t pouring yet, but yes, they should have gone into delay before it became an official game.

how is it tbay has crawford under contract cheap but it costs the jays tens of millions to keep rios?

MW: Crawford signed his deal before the 2005 season, when he was going into his first year of arbitration, as opposed to Rios. Crawford will make $18.25 million combined in what would have been his first two years of free agency, then he’s a free agent. Rios will make $24 million combined in what would have been his first two years of free agency, and then he’s still Jays property for another three years.

Watching Bud Selig’s press conference. It is like he is delivering a eulogy. Why so gloomy? Just say we will delay the game and continue tomorrow!

I think there should be a new rule that every World Series game be played in a dome, in Toronto. The home team should represent a bird. Always. Every year.

MW: Selig certainly didn’t look well.

apparently tbay only booked hotel rooms for tonight and the hotels are sold out so they have nowhere to sleep.

who has the advantage now? I think tbay since they tied it and phil has lost the momentum

MW: There’s no such thing as momentum. If there was, how could the Red Sox have lost the ALCS? Or, how could the Red Sox have gotten the ALCS to Game 7? You pick. I think the Phillies have the advantage since the Rays will be sleeping at the ballpark.

    Funny thing Mike,

Before the Game the Ray’s checked out of their hotel and they can’t check back in because all the rooms in the city are booked! LOL You can’t blame them because if they lost, they would have went home, if they won they would have went home. I wonder how that will affect the outcome of game 6?

MW: Who says there’s going to be a Game 6?

    Mike-

Could a great baseball mind like yours shed some light on the Jacobs to the Jays rumors?

Good pickup? What’s going the other way? Answer the needs?

    Geoff

MW: The Marlins will want the kids in the Jays system. A young pitcher like Cecil, Mills or one of the Romero brothers (no relation). I like Jacobs’ power, but I sure don’t like the lack of discipline. Still, the Jays are crying out for a 30-homer guy.

mike, I think if hinske can hit a homer to dead center after not playing for a month as you put it, well I think that’s pretty damn impressive!

also you said the jays have other options for dh. how many of these options had better numbers than hinske?

MW: Most of them – Manny, Giambi, Ibanez, Jacobs to name a few. I really don’t get the love for Hinske.

    - roccob
  17. 17.

mike, I dont get the love for JP. if you dont like hinske well his ops is .798 which would rank him tied for second on the jays team. also his hr would tie him for first. so he is better than most of what the jays are putting out there right now. he may have been a one year wonder which is why I think he could be had cheap, 1 year plus an option. all the others you mentioned would command 10+million. the jays need more than just 1 bat, hinske can play first, third, dh or of.

MW: Hinske had a better year than most of what the Jays are putting out there now, if you only count his hitting against right-handed pitchers and not defense or anything else, but that doesn’t make him better. Hinske had an OPS of .715 last season, and for his career, had an ops over .766 just once since his rookie-of-the-year 2002 until this year.

Mike…Any details on how Mike Lowell’s hip is coming along? Was surgery required? Hope he’s back for spring trainig. Not a Red Sox fan as you know, but definitely a Mike Lowell fan…Thanks Mike

MW: Lowell had surgery on his left hip last month, and is expected to be fully recovered by Spring Training.

Jacobs is a sell high guy for the Marlins. He is 28, about to get a huge raise, has had chronic injury questions, and doesn’t walk. Florida reasonably thinks that this was a career year and looking for suckers to take him. According to BR, he is most similar to Josh Phelps.

I have no idea why the Blue Jays would get into dealing their young guys for him. Let the Royals take this lemon!

MW: I don’t know why moving a guy coming off a .247 average and a .299 obp would be selling high, except that the 32 homers look pretty good. This was his career year to this point, though, with the 109 OPS+. The Jays need another power bat and it depends, of course, what young guy(s) they’d have to deal for him.

    Lyle overbay 2008 vs RHP .291 .384 .481 .865

    Erik Hinske 2008 vs RHP .262 .344 .500 .844

one of these players is six million dollars cheaper.

MW: That might be because Eric (he’s not scandinavian) Hinske hit .205./311/.398 vs RHP in 2007 and because Hinske hadn’t been a productive regular big-leaguer since 2002.

Speaking of people who look like people. I always though Scutaro kinda looks like Ricciardi.
