Beware purse snachers

January 4th, 2010 by Matt

Two thieves on a motor-scooter flew by and snatched a womans purse on a street in Wenzhou, China. Surveillance video shows a man riding a bicycle. As he was passing by the front of a hotel near where the thievery happened, he stopped, calmly got off his bicycle, picked it up, and then threw it at the thieves. The bicycle hit them, they lost control, and crashed to the ground.

First Name: Dan
Last Name: Ryan

Message: This is a poem written by my Grandmother Grace Ryan in 1940 regarding her husband’s tour of duty in WWII.

This poem was read live on the air just before the traditional Minute of Silence at the local AM station (CFAN) in Miramichi City New Brunswick every year on Remembrance Day while I was growing up, until the station was bought some years ago and the local staff sent to the four corners of the earth.

Below is the original text of the letter my grandmother sent to the radio station in the mid 1960s, it truly is an emotional read and a part of my family’s history that I would like to continue to share with the world. Enjoy

I thought you would like to read this poem over the air on Remembrance Day. I wrote it in 1940 when my husband went over seas for 5 years. Fortunately he returned safe and sound, and now our youngest son who was then 9 months old, is now a handsome young master corporal at CFB Chatham.

A CHILD’S PRAYER TO GOD

With tear stained face
And bright blue eyes,
A prayer goes forth to God.
A child kneels at his mother’s knee
And now and then she hears him sob
“Dear God way up in heaven
I’m lonesome for my dad
I wonder why he left me,
I feel so awful sad.
I try so awful hard dear God
I pray and pray each night,
To bring my daddy home to me,
Back from that awful fight.
I don’t remember daddy
He left when I was small,
But I kiss his picture every night,
The picture on the wall.
It broke my mommy’s heart you know
When daddy went away,
Some nights I hear her crying
And then I hear her pray,
And something fell upon my head
A tear from mommy’s eye
Please God make mommy happy
You could if you just tried.
My prayer tonight is done.
Please keep my daddy safe from harm,
A prayer from his little son Jim.

Obviously I need 12 more
