Meet a very cool artist

Monday, July 28th, 2008

This weekend I had the honor of meeting a very talented local photo artist named Bobby Scott. He and I have been emailing back and forth awhile as I wanted to buy one of his pieces. I finally did so and have included it below included it below. A few months ago I saw his work on auction as the ‘Safe Haven’ fundraising gala, and fell in love with what he does. I’ve always had a pull towards, and fascination with scenes of abandoned barns and houses, old cars and long forgotten about places that can’t help but look at and wonder…..what happened here 100 years ago?
Bobby has a great collection of photo’s he has taken. Check them out and get more info on this gifted guy at his website.

I tried keeping up with the ‘jones’s’ but bidding for this piece, but alas, there were far larger wallets in the room than mine so lost out. But he was kind enough to follow up with an email saying he enjoys our show, noticed I was a bidder, and that he’d have the same pic framed up for me. Not only that but that I could pay what I thought it worth and he’d donate that back to the charity. Nice touch, nice guy and great work!

Ozzy is getting white hatted today at the airport when arriving in town. Nothing more to add to that as the visual itself will be worth it alone.

He’s in Calgary for Folkfest while Blue Rodeo arrives to play ‘Monsters of Rock’. Or is it the other way around?

Also this weekend ‘The weekend to end breast cancer’. Thousands of wonderful people will be walking 60 k to raise funds. It’s always an emotional time as people walk for those they have lost. But also a celebration and party atmosphere as people walk for the successes of those who have beat the disease. Keep a good thought out for the walkers this weekend, honk in support when passing them. Oh, and for the handful we’ve seen get pissed off when the walk delays traffic for a few minutes? Shame on you

I want to see if we can help out a gal who had an awful start to the week. I’ll just paste her email below. Check it out and get back here if you saw anything that can help.

Have a great weekend!

I was involved (unfortunately) in a hit and run car accident on Monday (July 21) at around 3:30 PM on Glenmore Trail eastbound, just east of Crowchild Trail. The guy driving the car behind me (that pushed me into the vehicle in front of me) actually initially got out of his car at first to make sure everyone else was alright. As the driver of the vehicle in front of me and I were on the phone with emergency services, I turned around to see the driver of the car behind me, who caused the whole thing, drive away AND he had taken off his license plate! This whole incident leaves me in a bit of a pickle now because I have no vehicle to get to work/school (my car is a write off) and I get a $1000 less from the insurance company UNLESS they catch the guy who drove away. I am a university student and this money would make a HUGE difference for me when it comes to paying for school in the fall (and, in the meantime, getting another vehicle). My request to you is if you could please ask your listeners, if any other witnesses could come forward with any information regarding the missing vehicle/driver. The only information we were able to give the police so far was that it was a blue, probably 4-door, sedan and that the driver was probably in his high-20′s. Any further information regarding the vehicle (make/model, license plate etc.) or the driver would help immensely!

Any assistance would be most appreciated!
Sincerely,

Two thumbs up!

It’s not everyday a conversation starts with “So, did I ever mention the time I went to a live show?” The beautiful, innocent, accomplished and respect Kelly Abbott is not all she would appear it seems. Nine years ago on a trip to Amsterdam she found herself attending a live sex show. Oh, with her sister.

This news had me gob smacked. So I was shocked by the following calls that started with…”Me too!!!!”

Get the whole story as Kelly explained herself by checking out ‘Donnie’s Crappy Audio of the Day’!

Tomorrow we’ll be doing the show from ‘Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club’ as JACK is proudly supporting the ‘ Safeway Foundation Charity Golf Classic’. It’s always a great event and raises tons of cash to ensure less fortunate kids in Calgary have a better life.

Good morning! And congrats in advance to Chuck Mulvenna and Renee Hopfner who do a great job with Safeway and the foundation all year long.

Turns out my question this morning wasn’t as easily answered as I had hoped. Therefore, still unsure weather I can hold myself up in a burb backyard and bb bunnies!

For longer than I care to admit I’ve been battling dead patches on my lawn. Through a series of suggestions from friends and neighbors (concerned about the street’s image and their house price I’m sure) and deduction following the failings of these suggestions; moth balls, dog hair etc….. I’m left with only one option. Buy a bb gun and hunt the rabbits from the comfort of my patio. Rambo I am not. Certainly not while wearing crocs, shorts and paint stained t-shirt. Admittedly I’ve thought about painting my face in camo just for kicks. I asked this morning what the legalities would be surrounding this. Nobody seemed to know or at least verse specific text from the criminal code. Oh sure, there was the one guy who related a similar solution to his pigeon problem and went on to say..”Not a good idea. Neighbors ratted me out. Cops came thinking it was a real gun and 7 of them took me to the ground and hauled me off to jail”. Or something like that, wasn’t really listening as I was flipping through a ‘Canadian Tire’ catalogue. Did you know you can get a bb rifle for 60 bucks that includes a scope? I’m sure the scope is something I need for this size of game.

A couple of callers even questioned my choice in fire power. “Why just a bb gun?…that won’t get you dinner!”.

The simple fact is, I don’t want a dead rabbit on MY lawn. Just give him second thoughts about coming back and hopefully he’ll go back to his hole and tell his bunny buddies my place isn’t a great idea to lay their presents. Might I suggest they try Kelly’s car seat?

Stephan Page of Barenaked Ladies facing possession of coke charges in NY. Check out our producer Donnie’s work under ‘Donnie’s Crappy Audio of the Day’!

Sticking with Canadian artists but at the other end of the news spectrum, Feist has made it! Sure, it’s already been a great year for Calgary’s daughter and hottest export. But true stardom can only be claimed once you’ve been on ‘Sesame Street’. Check it out below

Your Monday isn’t so bad…believe me

Monday, July 14th, 2008

So, you’re not a big fan of Mondays? We defy you to top Kelly’s less than stellar start to a crappy day. She left her house to find that someone had broken into her car and steal stuff. He was kind enough however to leave her something on her front seat. How can I put this lightly for family constipat…errrr…I mean consumption? Well, apparently the degenerate couldn’t wait to get home (assuming he has one) to lay waste. I will now give you a minute to decide whether you’re allowed to laugh.

Enough time? Took Eric and I about 4 seconds to laugh, but we’re odd that way. A cop called and said he had never seen or heard of that before. He wasn’t even sure a charge could be levied as the act isn’t found in the legal code. Kyle was equally as perplexed and he thought he’d seen it all. Well, he’s seeing it now because we hired him on the spot, for the spot, and as I write this he’s in the parking lot attending to Kelly’s ‘Carriage of Crap’.

Not sure what would ever provoke someone to do that, but I think there’s a lesson to us all. Even kids destined to a life of crime need to be told when young “Make sure YOU go…before we go”

Many have asked how we made out Friday taking our little ones to the Rodeo. It was an awesome day and both Liam and Kelly had a ball. Meeting Diego and Dora was probably the highlight, but they also made it through most of the rodeo which was a present surprise. The only downside was being forced to leave rather hastily covered in (re-visit the story about Kelly cuz I really don’t want to describe again). Yes, a blowout. Which may have been caused by the 8 pounds of popcorn Liam ate due to not only Eric’s encouragement, but ‘tossing/force feeding’. Pic below as proof.

I’ve learned that there is in fact something I enjoy more that napping with my son. And that’s napping with two of them.

Stampediatric

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Thank you so much to all who have sent the obligatory; “congrats”, “he’s so cute”, “look at all that hair”, “hope you’re getting sleep”, “how’s Liam feeling about having a brother?”, “Paige doesn’t look like she just gave birth!”. All these are very kind and appreciated, but why aren’t people ever honest. “You’re an ass for posting a pic so soon after birth, your kid looks like a gremlin and why would you subject another being to your boring life”. Good points all the same.

All is good at home with the adjustment period going well with a fourth body. Albeit a small body who just eats and sleeps right now, so I guess I should reserve judgment on how well it’s going for awhile.

Stampede is well underway and I trust you’re drinking and eating too much, staying up late and partying with people you shouldn’t be. Please share your stories so I can live vicariously through you and your indiscretions. For some reason I can’t see (“You good with the kids this weekend babe?….I’m going to light it up!…where are my boots?”) being a big hit. Yes, Stampede has taken on a different look somehow. Example B. Eric and I are going to the rodeo on Friday. Past years this would have meant the lead up time was spent working out where to meet for drinks prior and where to head for drinks after. This time however we’re taking our kids so the meeting place will be some ‘bouncy room’ (like Cowboys but different), plenty of drinks on hand for the sippy cups and we’ll probably only last an hour due to attention spam issues and that the rodeo is in the nap cycle time. So again, please send me what YOU did!
