Who took the ‘trick’ out of Halloween?
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007
Please forgive the brevity of this, my second blog. However, Eric and I have just been summoned to a meeting with Human Recourses….something about leering and inappropriate comments directed at the ‘Naughty Prisoner’ and ‘Catwoman’. Come on! When you dress like that and look in the mirror before leaving the house, do you really think your co-workers will enter your office and leave without saying something other than “I need some paper clips”?
Thanks for those who called the show this morning and seem to agree that kids have gotten lazy! And we needn’t look any further than this day. I’m sure there was a time that “Trick or Treat” meant something, as in “I’m going to entertain you and work for my teeth spoiling spoils. Now, as one very perturbed 9 year old shared “Some damn kids don’t even say trick or treat…they just expect to show up and getting the freaking candy”. I’m paraphrasing, but you get her point. Our challenge to you this evening is try to get some of the kids to actually perform a trick. Of course only use this coercion on the older ones. As I can attest to since we did a ‘run through’ at home last night, getting a younger kid into a costume is a trick in and of itself. Liam will be a pumpkin if you care. At almost two years of age getting him into a jacket and hat is an ongoing challenge let alone a full Halloween outfit. Yet, once the tears stop and the walk begins, hand in hand, 20 photos later and downloaded immediately, pride filled hearing neighbors say “Your son is adorable” and after gorging on his bounty…..I guess we’re all reminded that next Halloween is only a year away and we can’t wait!

How the hell does this thing work?

Here goes nothing…..literally.
As one who has never read a blog let alone contributed to one I seem the odd choice to write this for the station. Like everything else around here the heady decisions are made with professionalism and research. The boss, whatever his name is, cornered me yesterday after the show and with Eric long gone I was sucked in, rather, I was honored to say “yes”.
As for what the tone or content will be daily? I have no idea other to say that I trust, like our show, the most interesting and clever observations of life in our city will come from you. Please feel free to keep this thing going and respond to my ‘thought starters’ , offer your own stuff or even ask a question of Eric and I. I vow to check back in…..whenever I feel like it and promise to spend five minutes after each show to write the ‘kick off’
Things we learned this morning with ‘Matt and Eric’
Hate to break the bubble in your head that Eric surf’ only sports related sites but he introduced us to new ‘under fashion accessories’ that he obviously discovered on a less than manly site.
NipSlip – fear not if dress falls open, those things will be covered
Concealits- cold outside? You won’t be announcing it to the world
Supportits- feeling droopy? Nothing a little adhesive fabric can’t solve

Saddest news of the day. Britney Spears new album is out and gets rave reviews. Eagles also release a new one today and won’t come close to ‘NipSlips’ sales.
Heartbreaking story of three year old Kate Williams who on the wings of angels lived through a plane crash that took her grandfather and another gentleman in Golden B.C. Left hanging upside down in the plane, bruised and crying for 5 hours. Rescue workers found her just before darkness fell, thank God! Young Kate’s greatest concern? She didn’t want to leave without her teddy bear ‘Baby’, which she kept calling for. Rescue workers cleaned ‘Baby’ of snow and handed it to Kate who stopped crying for the trip to the ‘Children’s Hospital’. Although she lost her Grandfather, someday when she’s old enough she’ll learn of how he saved her life buy insisting she wear a child-safety seat while flying. Allen Williams lost his life, but today he looks down and hopefully feels pride that his legacy will be that his actions made sure his Grand-daughter will fly again.
If you’re not a Jack Freeloader yet, get on it. Easy to do and easy to win some stellar stuff. Congrats to Allen Carty who yesterday won a $50, 000 dollar Showcase and this morning Jay Christie won the raffle for ski passes with ‘Resorts of the Canadian Rockies’ and 3 grand in ski gear!
