Stilleto be gone!

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

Ladies, think twice before throwing off those workday heels and switching to sneakers for the commute home. A study published in the “Journal of Experimental Biology,” reports wearing even relatively low 2 inch heels can shrink calf muscles permanently an average of 13 percent over two years, leaving them susceptible to painful injuries when walking with flats. A safer option would be to switch to flats full time, doctors say.

Are kids too spoiled these days?

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

I have a friend whose kid has in his room a refrigerator, television, iPod, DVD player, X-Box, telephone, cell phone, stereo and bathroom. There’s no reason for him to ever leave his room. Is this too much for a teenager to have? How do you punish a kid who has all of these things? You can’t send him to his room without any supper because he can just crank open the fridge and pop in a movie.

Paint your way green!

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Someday soon, you will be able to paint your own solar cells onto your roof by mixing grass clippings with a few inexpensive house hold chemicals. Andreas Mershin, an MIT physicist, is developing a system to make cheap electricity available in rural areas. His research team has found ways to take green vegetable waste like weeds, lawn clippings, corn stalks and the like and strip out the protein responsible for photosynthesis. Their chemical mixture mainly titanium dioxide allows that protein to survive and convert sunlight to energy.

Bad typo ..

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

Scott and I mentioned this on the air this morning and I thought it was worth repeating in case you missed it!
The University of Texas has issued an apology after they left the letter “L” out of the word “Public” in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs commencement programs they handed out at the ceremony on Saturday (May 19th). The school posted on Twitter, “Our deepest apologies to our 2012 graduates for the egregious typo in our commencement program,” the school said on its Twitter page. “We are working to distribute new programs.” (New York Daily News)

Anything For a Vote Right?
Ann Doyle is running for the Michigan Legislature and was campaigning door to door in Saginaw County’s Frankenmuth Township when she was suddenly bitten by a dog — three times! Ms. Doyle said she didn’t even see the dog until it was too late. Doyle actually started bleeding and blacked out by the time the dog’s owner called off his pet. But he felt so bad about the incident, he’s agreed to post one of Doyle’s campaign signs in his yard and has assured her she will get her vote. In return Miss Doyle has refused to name the man but says she’s happy to get what she called a “sympathy vote.” (The Saginaw News)

3,2,1..Shop!

Friday, May 18th, 2012

When it comes to bargain hunting, women rule. A recent study shows that a substantial 60% of female shoppers are more interested in getting a good deal than quality merchandise while only 31% are more fixated on finding superior made goods. Men were almost the exact opposite with 50% of them more interested in quality while only 43% said price mattered most. But the Adweek Media/Harris Poll numbers also showed that our preferences change as we age and we become increasingly interested in quality over cost. Price trumped quality by 58 to 33% in people ages 18 to 34, by 53 to 44% in people ages 35 to 44, and by 51 to 47% in people ages 45 to 54. And in folks 55 and over, the trend reverses. Most, 49%, prefer top quality stuff while only 44% put price first. “My wife is always telling me: ‘Look how much money I saved,’” says one married man. “But the truth is, the more she saves, the more she spends.”

Fast Food #1

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

The top-rated fast food restaurant is Subway. This is the eighth consecutive year that Subway has ranked No. 1 as America’s quick-service restaurant brand, according to an annual Harris Poll EquiTrend study. Harris Poll credits Subway’s dominance to its fast and healthy meal choices in a time when people are more conscious about the medical risks of obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease and the importance making healthy food choices away from home. Go ahead and eat fast food…once in a while ; )

Olympic Sized Bet!

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Australian Olympic shooting gold medalist Russell Mark will be making quite an entrance at the upcoming summer Olympics in London. Having lost a bet, Mark is set to parade during the opening ceremony wearing a lime-green “mankini” — the kind made famous by the movie character “Borat.” Mark, who won double trap gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games and silver in Sydney, pledged to wear the skimpy swimsuit if Melbourne-based Carlton lost to St. Kilda in the Australian Football League. Carlton suffered a shock four-goal defeat in the match on Monday night and Mark owned up to making the bet on local radio. At age 48, this will be Mark’s sixth Olympics and he has a chance at being named flag bearer. Set your DVRs.

Cranky?

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Shopping when you’re in a crappy mood can cost you, literally. The reason: Scientists theorize that when people feel blue, they tend to devalue themselves, which in turn increase their drive and willingness to spend money.
So, stay home and eat a barrel of ice cream instead! ; )

JENNIFER LOPEZ NEEDS PERMISSION:

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Jennifer Lopez will reportedly need a courts permission to take her twins on tour with her. According to TMZ, the hearing has been set for June 26. Lopez and her ex, Marc Anthony’s, custody agreement says that Jennifer must keep the four-year-olds within the confines of the state. Lopez and Enrique Iglesias are set to kick off a 13-date tour on July 14.
What do you think? Should JLo lug her kids around with her on tour?
