Up, up and away .. just not far enough

“Balloon Boy” dad Richard Heene has apparently landed on his feet, and is now hawking a back scratching post called “Bear Scratch,” AOL News reports. The $19.99 post attaches to a wall and lets people scratch their itchy backs the same way bears do in the wild. Heene and his wife pleaded guilty to several charges after their balloon boy hoax last year in which they pretended their son was trapped on a weather balloon, sending rescuers on a hours-long chase, in order to get attention for a reality TV show they were pitching. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 60 days of work release.

CAT SURVIVED MICROWAVE, FREEZER AND DRYER

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

44 year-old Colin Sherlock from England pleaded guilty to torturing his cat after putting the year-old feline in a variety of home appliances. He put the cat in the freezer — and then in the microwave for ten minutes. Additionally, he admitted to putting the cat in the dryer. Sherlock said, “It was a drunken, stupid, drugged-up mistake.” The feline miraculously survived, and is now under the care of the RSPCA. Sherlock faces a jail sentence.
I’m thinking this guy should come back in his next life as a cat!

A Florida man was awarded $650,000 for injuries he suffered while getting a lap dance at a strip club. Michael Ireland’s attorney says that his client suffered a punctured eye socket and broken facial bones after the dancer’s high heel hit him in the face. The lawyer said after the ruling, “When this case was first filed, many people criticized it simply because it occurred at a strip club. But we feel the $650,000 settlement goes to show that this was a serious case with serious injuries.”

I almost want to feel sorry for you Michael, but, uh, no. ; )

A Nepalese 18-year-old who stands just 26.4 inches tall and weighs 12 pounds, 5 ounces was officially declared the world’s shortest man by Guinness record officials yesterday (October 14th). Khagendra Thapa Magar takes the title from the previous record holder, 27-inch-tall Edward Nino Hernandez of Colombia. Magar’s family has tried for years to get him the title, but earlier requests to Guinness were turned down because of the possibility he might grow. Now that he’s reached 18 and is an adult, Guinness certified the record. Magar was very small when he was born, weighing just 1.3 pounds, and neither his family nor local doctors know why he never grew much.

A Canadian woman ended up driving into a swamp after using her GPS to help when she got lost on her way to work. The woman had to call 911 for help from the roof of her car. Police said in a statement, “She advised she was standing on top of her car as it was submerged in a heavy marsh. She was following her GPS directions and became lost.” Firefighters dressed in wetsuits to recover her from “the middle of the marsh.” (AFP)

Girls, let’s not tell the guys this one. ; )

Women no longer expect the man to pay for dinner, according to a new survey. A combination of hectic lifestyles and modern technology have dramatically changed women’s perception of what makes a true gentleman. Pulling out chairs and opening doors no longer come high on a list of typical traits. Instead, they have been replaced by making a cup of coffee for a woman in the morning, and looking after her when she has a hangover. One in ten women believe a modern gentleman should send his wife or girlfriend romantic text messages, and one in 20 think he should make regular posts on her Facebook wall. (Daily Mail)

My husband can still open doors and pull out my chair .. and all the other stuff too! ; )
