Lindsay’s Latest
Monday, May 31st, 2010
Have you heard the latest about Lindsay Lohan? Well, it seems the troubled actress ( I knew that ) and aspiring style guru ( really? that I didn’t know ) wants Chanel to help customize an unwanted fashion accessory .. her alcohol monitoring bracelet! The 23 year old has been ordered to wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor even though her attorney argued the bracelet would interfere with upcoming acting and modeling assignments. So, now Lohan is seeking to help camouflage the bracelet with the help of French fashion house Chanel! Hard to tell she has a drug and alcohol problem isn’t it?
I’m off to M.C. the Opening Ceremonies for this year’s Senior Games at the Drop In Center on Bay Street. I’ve been lucky enough to do this event for quite a few years and I’m thrilled to be asked back. We could all learn a lesson or two about what’s important in life, true team spirit and friendly competition. Have a great week everybody and enjoy the games!

Shoes
Friday, May 28th, 2010
Summer’s heat can be hard on feet, but with a little pampering and attention to basics, you can confidently put your best foot forward.
Stephen Hartman, of the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine, has some advice on how to keep your feet happy in the dog days of summer.
Sandals can raise blisters and irritate the skin, so alternating shoes with sandals or changing up which sandals you wear can give your feet a healing break.
The current craze of the high heeled gladiator sandals can cause problems .. (Carrie on Sex in the City is having heart palpatations), so Hartman suggests wearing them on special occasions rather than several days a week.
The flip flop is .. well, a flop. Hartman says no shock absorption and no support. Oh the kids are gonna hate that one!
Hope you have a great weekend! ; )

Spring Cleaning
Tuesday, May 25th, 2010
The only good thing about spring cleaning, is the end of it! Finally got mine finished up this weekend and in all my brilliance, picked the warmest day of the season so far to wash windows. I know what you’re thinking. Why wouldn’t you just stop and wait for a cooler day. Well, mainly because I’m stubborn. Once I start something, I don’t let go easily, good, bad or ugly! I’m in there until the end….well, it was almost the end of me! The only thing that saved me was I pretended I was working out. Didn’t help much.
I should clarify though, I had a great long weekend with visits to friends with camps, great back yards, good company and some laughs. Take that dirty windows!
Hope your weekend was fantastic too!

“Victoria Day”, a uniquely Canadian holiday commemorating the birth of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Victoria on May 24, 1819. The holiday orginated in 1901 after her death, as a memorial day for her role in Confederation and other national milestones. Along with “Canada Day”, it’s the only Canadian holiday that’s not celebrated elsewhere.
I hope you and your family have a great long weekend and here’s to a great summer ahead!

Bubble Wrap?
Thursday, May 20th, 2010
The bride wore .. bubble wrap! That’s right, blushing British bride Rachael Robinson wore a gown made entirely from recycled material, including 13 feet of bubble wrap for her recent wedding. The 30 year old primary school teacher originally had the dress made for a “Recyclable Materials Fashion Show” by her class last month.
Isn’t bubble wrap see-through?

Lawsuit

A woman in Toronto is suing her cell phone provider. She’s upset because the company sent a global invoice to the woman’s home, which she shared with her husband. The invoice revealed that the woman had been making hours-long phone calls to one particular number. So, the husband called the number and reached his wife’s boyfriend. She wants $600,000.00 for “losing everything.” Is that all her self respect is worth?

Canadian William Shatner (well he used to be anyway .. ) is getting ready for his first sitcom next season. OK, so here’s the premise .. the show is about a man who has more than a million followers of his Twitter account and his tweets are all about his dad. That’s where Shatner comes in .. as the dad. Is it just me or is William Shatner everywhere!? He’s done it all .. Star Trek, the TV show, then the movie, then eccentric lawyer Mr. Crane and commercials too! And a lot of stuff in between I’m sure.
What’s his secret? I mean, ok he was pretty handsome as Captain Kirk on TV but that was a really long time ago (I hear). I wonder if he realized when he was doing Kirk with the plastic rocks, beehive hairdos on all his female love interests, a miniature of the Enterprise in the opening shot of the show and ray guns that looked like water guns, that one day he’d be the subject of conversation for a whole bunch of tweeters!? Back then he might have thought that a tweeter was one of those aliens he ran into once in a while. Whether or not you think he’s talented, he’s certainly persistent.

Law and Order
Monday, May 17th, 2010
Well, it’s done. Law and Order has been cancelled, kinda. On Friday, NBC announced it was not bringing the original “Law and Order” back for a 21st season, and the season finale on May 24th will also be the series finale. That means the show ties with “Gunsmoke” as the longest running TV drama.
But .. yup, there’s a but. A new Law And Order series is taking its place.
Ladies and gentlemen!……”Law And Order: Los Angeles!” .. or LOLA for short. Can’t wait to see who the actors on this one will be.
There was a rumour that NBC would keep the original “Law And Order” on the air through a 21st season, just so it could beat “Gunsmoke.” Now, there’s quality control.
Seems like the show’s creators are following the lead of the CSI shows…I wonder if they’d consider “Law And Order: Chapleau?” Ya never know.

My friend
Friday, May 14th, 2010
Today marks a sad anniversary. Four years ago Constable Don Doucet was killed while on duty with the Sault Ste. Marie City Police. The cruiser he was in was struck by a drunk driver.
My friend Don is missed every day .. by his wife Debbie, his daughters Jocelyn and Courtney, his father Louis, brother and sisters, other family members and his fellow officers. His brothers in arms have set up a committee of sorts to maintain the ribbons and a memorial at the intersection where the accident occurred. Good for them. The blue ribbons reassure me everytime I travel through the intersection of Black Road and McNabb. From my observation, police officers are a very tight group .. they must miss Don a lot.
Don had this glint in his eye almost all the time. He was a man with a huge devotion to his family. He loved sports and would be chomping at the bit to get out on the golf course if he were here today. He played and lived with conviction, an amazing sense of humour and loyalty. He was smart, quick to lend a helping hand and proud.
I miss my friend, as do so many other people.
It’s Friday, have a good weekend and for Don, don’t drink and drive.
I’ll see ya Monday morning,

Job Interviews
Thursday, May 13th, 2010
Have you ever had one of those job interviews, where on your way home, you ask yourself: “What the heck was that about?” Well, apparently you’re not alone. I found these legitimate questions.
Question by ‘Apple Computers’ Executive: “If I put you in a sealed room with a phone that had no dial tone, how would you fix it?”
My answer: “Fix your own phone, you’re Apple for goodness sake!”
Question by Nestle Executive: “If you were a brick in the wall, which brick would you be and why?”
My answer: “Mr. Neslte, tear down that wall!”
Question by Microsoft Executive: “How would you move Mount Fuji?”
My answer: “I don’t know, let me Google that .. ”
