Our Lady Peace singer, Raine Maida joins us to talk about the new album and discuss the bands upcoming Edmonton date
Michaelle Jean Seals the Deal in Nunavut
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009
Are you as sick as I am of seeing that same clip of Canada’s Governor General eating that little hunk of raw seal heart?Animal rights activists are ready to blow a gasket (or is it a seal) over this. I’m not nuts about the seal hunt, but lets quit overreacting already. We’re acting like she’s Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off a bat on live television.
The reality is, we sent her to a celebration in Nunavut where this is customary. She followed government policy — policy we created. Now we’re upset about it. What did we expect? She was gonna bring a bagged lunch? Maybe ride her Ski-doo over to Subway for a turkey club?

SONiC’s Anti-club Saturday Pics at the Pawnshop
Sunday, May 24th, 2009
We’ve all heard the “scientific fact” that it’s IMPOSSIBLE for one to lick their own elbow. This picture disproves that.

Here me proving it is also possible to lick Matt’s elbow (which taste like bacon bits, in case you were wondering).

It just isn’t a party until SONiC’s Liann Cameron & Bryce Kelly show up… or until I start rockin’ the creepy Pedi-smile.

Good hospitality, good turn out, good God she REALLY did lick her elbows.

Thanks again to Al and everybody at the Pawnshop for inviting us to host Anti-club Saturdays… see you next week!

Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus on the Layne Mitchell Show
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009
I had a chance to chat with Blink 182′s Mark Hoppus. While we could discuss important things like whether or not the band will rename its latest incarnation Blink 183, instead we chose to focus on what we can expect from the show July 31st. In case you missed it, here’s the on-air interview.
Catch the unabridged version in this weeks’ edition of the Layne Mitchell Show Podcast, which will hit iTunes this Friday. Meanwhile, go ahead and look up the work “unabridged”… you know you wanna. By the way, here’s the band’s performance on The Tonight Show on Monday.
Pearl Jam’s New Video
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009
I was aimlessly trolling the internet hard at work preparing for another life-changing broadcast, when I stumbled upon the surveillance video of Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament getting mugged. The bassist was confronted by 3 masked men outside an Atlanta recording studio where the band is working on a new album. Ament took a few lumps before before the thieves made off with about $3,000 in cash and some gear. The angle is bad, the lighting is worse, yet I found myself unable to look away and even, oddly entertained.
Ament was treated at the scene and likely won’t miss that $3,000 once Rock Band Pearl Jam hits the streets next summer.
BLINK 182 is Coming To Edmonton!
Monday, May 18th, 2009
I’ve been blabbing about rumors of the recently reunited Blink 182 tour making an Edmonton stop for weeks. I finally have something beyond just idle gossip. A date! July 31 the band will play Rexall Place.
Opening acts rotate through the tour including Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday, Asher Roth and Chester French – I’ve heard All-American Reject & Fall Out Boy will play the Rexall show.
