Why Does the word “Twitter” Make Me Feel Dirty?
Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
Every time I say things like “I Twittered a friend of mine the other day”, I can’t help but think “hope my wife doesn’t find out”. Why does saying the word Twitter make me feel dirty? Is it because it sounds like tittilate or tickle? Perhaps it brings to mind other “tw” words.
By definition, Twitter is the succession of high-pitched chirps uttered by birds. Nothing dirty about that, right? So why do I feel like such a dirty-birdy? Am I alone?

The World’s Most AWKWARD Interview
Friday, April 10th, 2009
Billy Bob Thorton had an epic freak-out during a recent radio interview. Aparently Billy Bob plays in a band, we was doing press in support of is band. The host mentioned in passing that Billy Bob has done some acting at which point, the actor (sorry MUSICIAN) pulled a Joaquin Phoenix and acted like a complete belligerent ass. I felt uncomfortable FOR the host.
I had a similar experience during an interview with Matthew Good about 6 or 7 years ago. I couldn’t help but wonder how awkward it might be to hear Matt Good interview Billy Bob Thornton. So through the magic of technology… I made it happen.

Edmonton’s Residential Speed Limit
Thursday, April 9th, 2009
I hate to be that guy who goes on the radio, railing about anything that’s new or different. So yesterday when I that city councilors are trying to have the speed limit changed on residential roads from 50km/hour to 30/km/hour, I decided that instead of condemning the idea right out of the gate, I’d try it. So I did.
I left the station last night after the show – about 7:00. And I drove the speed limit the ENTIRE time – as I usually do. Only this time, I drove 30 kilometers per hour in residential areas.
As first, I hated it, I felt like maybe I’d had a stroke – like the honking motorists behind me surely suggested. But once the people behind me finished passing me, giving me the finger, and throwing their garbage at me. I discovered that driving really slow can be kinda fun. It was like driving in a parade.
My little car was like my own private parade float. I waved to joggers who ran by. I felt like one of the Shriners. It took every ounce of my being not to put my empty slurpee cup on head and start doing figure 8’s down Millwoods Road.

ABOVE: Here’s a picture of me driving home from work last night.
Fast & Furious #1… REALLY?
Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
Fast & Furious is officially the biggest movie of 2009. It took in $72.5 million over the weekend. Now I haven’t seen it, but I have seen the preview and I confess, I feel like I got dumber just watching it Cars racing, stuff blowing up, two girls kissing. I’m not even sure what that last one could possibly have to do with the plot of the movie. I’m not saying I’m above this movie – in fact, I’m sure I’ll rent it at some point (and enjoy it). I’m just saying it doesn’t strike me as the kind of movie that should be the BIGGEST movie of the year. The number one movie of 2009.
Then I read an article today about the economy and the effect recession’s have on “dumbing-down entertainment”. We use TV and movies for different things; usually entertainment. However, during times of economic hardship, people just watch to escape. We want to forget our problems and so we seek out brain pabulum – mindless entertainment to forget about our financial woes and thus, Fast & Furious #1 movie of 2009.

Have You Ever Heard of Someone Who Hates FRUIT???
Friday, April 3rd, 2009
People have all kinds of different quirks when it comes to the foods they like to eat. Some people hate broccoli. Other people love it. Some people hate tuna fish, then there’s people like me who eat it 6 times a day. I discovered something about a woman who works in our traffic department here at the station – that’s where they schedule when and where the commercials run and how often. This lady HATES… fruit.
How do hate fruit? Vegetables, I can understand. But fruit? It’s sweet and juicy and refreshing, and delicious. It’s naturey-goodness pre-packaged by Mother Nature herself. I wouldn’t have believed it, had I not heard it with my own two ears. But it’s true… there are fruit haters out there living among us.

Perhaps THIS is why Jackie hates fruit (submitted by SONiC Girl Kim).
Legal Rape? WTF!!!
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
A new Afghan law is causing HUGE controversy. The law inhibits the rights of women, including the legalization of rape within marriage. I realize not every society has progressed to the point we have with gender equality.
As absolutely terrible as that is, the most surprising part is, it’s a NEW law. Every country in the world is moving closer and closer to equality every day, yet Afghanistan is going backwards. Legalizing rape… well, legalizing rape… as long as you’re married. Yeah, cause that makes it better.
I find it impossible to fathom stumbling upon a man raping a woman, attempting to break it up, the man says something like “it’s okay… she’s my wife”, and then me responding “Very well; carry on then!” My conscience will never let that happen.
