I recently received a heart wrenching email from a woman named Kara.  She told me the story of her beautiful 8 year old daughter Emily who has been in an induced coma at CHEO since last month.  Up until then, she was a happy and healthy child who had no medical issues.  Out of the blue she had a Grande Mal seizure and has continued to have seizures.  The doctors are still unsure why this is happening.

Kara feels that her daughter and their family need all the support they can get at this difficult time.     She is asking people to take a few minutes out of their day and send her daughter a card.  She is hoping that this will help lift her spirits, at the very least.

Please send a card to Emily…..89 Wilson St. West – Perth, Ont, K7H 2N9

This small act of kindness could make all the difference.

Thank you so much for talking about my daughter Emily, it is agonizing to watch her,she has lay in a coma for nearly 3 weeks – countless tests, a brain biopsy – still no real answers. Emily will be keep in a coma to help protect her brain until the seizures slow down…everyday seems more challenging, it is so difficult to just have to wait. It seems that this nightmare won’t stop – the cards will be for emily – but honestly they will do alot for me as well – I need to find hope and strength again. Some days I’m crippled with fear. I know that Emily may have impairments when she wakes up – this I can handle – What I could not handle is emily not waking up. Thank you, I appreciate the support. kara

HI! wanted to give you an update about emily – she was doing very well last week, actually went almost 4 days without a seizure – today my heart cracked when her seizures started again….but after talking to the neurologist, I was told that this can be expected as medication levels decrease. Emily’s latest MRI showed no more damage – and her seizures are shorter, with breaks in between… so although it breaks my heart, i have to look on the bright side. Emily is improving – yesterday she was opening her eyes, and squeezing my hand – today – a little movement, but trying to keep her calm. it will be a really long road, it is hard to stay strong and positive. really woould love to hear from people, the days are long, and it is hard to keep going sometimes.
