Advice for John Tory

July 30th, 2010

No, John Tory does not really need any advice from me — he is surrounded by it.

What might be helpful to him though is a reminder that he can do more for the City of Toronto from his current position as chair of the Toronto City Summit Alliance and as a media commentator.

Tory knows that he would have an easier life if he stayed out of politics. He would have more time with his family, he would sit on more boards, and would not have to tie himself up in knots every day trying to work with a dysfunctional council system.

John Tory is a decent man. He can be nasty at times and has been on occasion along the way, but it is not in his nature to be negative or on the defensive. He cares a lot about Toronto and has demonstrated that loyalty throughout his life of public service. I would just like to remind him that he already knows he can have more of an impact from the outside than he can from the inside.

I’m off on a week vacation as of this writing, and hope that I don’t hear throughout next week that John Tory has changed his mind and will run for mayor.
