That is a fact. SHOCKING, right? Disgusting too.
So….what are you eating?
We’re making an effort in our house (despite the protests of my hot dog lovin’ Campbell’s soup swiggin’ husband and son) to get away from packaged, processed foods. This is HARD…because I LOVE Pogo sticks. And Lean Cuisine. Damnit.
We’ve all heard the advice to stick to the outside aisles of the grocery store (where the fresh produce, real dairy and meat sections are) and stay away from the inner aisles that are home to the boxed, packaged, preserved food. Little by little, I’ve fazed out MOST of the packaged food that comes into our house….don’t get me wrong. There’s still a box or 2 of Kraft dinner and some canned tomatoes in my pantry, that may never change…but I’m pretty proud of the choices we’ve made and the changes I’ve seen in my families bodies, sleep patterns and health.
It AMAZES me how much I learn everyday as I continue my research into how/what we eat. Here’s a quote that I LOVE about the way we use food:
“The food you eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” ~Ann Wigmore~
That one inspired me to try to serve food with the LEAST amount of ingredients possible. And if I can’t pronounce something on the ingredient list, should I eat it or feed it to my family?
We’re not perfect. I ate 678 8 cheap chocolate Easter eggs in the past week. But I also bought a crap tonne of fresh veggies and made dip for snacking, got my boys to try Kale chips (1 yes, 1 solid “YUCK”) and stopped buying bagged chemical laden microwave popcorn and tried doing it the ol’ fashioned way. With a pot, kernels and some oil. And you know what…it was WAAAAY yummier than the packaged stuff. And in the end, let’s be honest, yummy matters.
Baby steps, right?
