Don’t Judge.

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

(Todd steps into the kitchen @ 6:30am..I’m on the air from a home studio until November and whirlwind thru about this time every am to grab breakfast and get back to the mic before the song is over..so about 3 minutes…)

T: What the frig happened in here?

Me: What?

T: Tell me exactly what you ate for breakfast this morning.

Me: A boiled egg, peas in the pod, yogurt, 3 cherry tomatoes and a Hersey’s Kiss.

Todd: Well, that explains the eggshells and foil wrapping strewn about. A Hershey’s Kiss?!?

Me: I earned it. On account of the peas and the cherry tomatoes. Shut it. And it was actually TWO Hersy’s Kisses. Plural.

Wow. Just Wow.

The 50′s. Good times for advertising. Not so much for nutrition.

My favourite parts are, “Boosts Personality!” and “Promotes Active Lifestyle!” Also, the sentence, “do yourself a favour and start your child on a regime of sugary beverages right for a lifetime of guaranteed happiness.” makes my eyes bug out.

My father would say the 50′s were the best decade in history for building cars. Agreed. The best decade for health? Not so much.

Local, local, local…

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

I love the Farmer’s Market. I love Pepi’s Pizza. I love Ethel’s. I love all things Kitchener/Waterloo-ish.

I also LOVE being a Mommy. So when local Mom Courtney from Sullivan and Sawyer Baby Co. got in touch and asked if I’d like some of her ADORABLE baby swag I quickly replied, “Ummmmyespleaseyes.”

You can see her beautiful, handmade products here:

Ayson LOVES this: http://www.sullivanandsawyer.com/shop/?p=46

I may have had to pry it away from a napping Daddy’s hands too. It’s supercozy.

We also enjoy the fact that there is an ORGANIC section as I am slowly turning into a crazier version of Kate Gosselin as we are trying our best to be more conscious and earth friendly here at Casa Nutbrown. Tree huggin’ granola heads. That’s what we are.

This one’s for all the Hippy Mommies: http://www.sullivanandsawyer.com/shop/?cat=17

And Toy Ties!! I really, really needed those. Little boy blue eyes enjoys the toy tossing. I, on the other hand have tired of this game. Toy Ties rock my world. http://www.sullivanandsawyer.com/shop/?cat=15

Thanks Courtney! I love that your a local gal, busy mommying and making beautiful stuff. Actually, I’m a little bit jealous that you have 2 kids, a business and time to create and be unique. I’m still working on having 1 kid and getting the bed made. Ha! Or, not “ha,” cause that is true.

Here’s a recent picture of baby blue eyes NOT wearing his new garb from Sawyer and Sullivan because it’s too pretty to get yogurt and raspberries on. :-)

True Blood Dip

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I promised the lady who gave this recipe I’d NEVER reveal it on my blog.

I lied.

Sorry lady.

You’re welcome everyone else.

Anti-Vampire Dip (Shhhhhhhhh)

2 Packages of Cream Cheese, softened

1 container of McLaren’s sharp cheddar (softened…this cheese is in a red plastic container and found beside the cream cheese in most supermarkets)

4 cloves of raw garlic, chopped VERY finely (Slapchop, baby!! :-)

Mix well, chill, serve with crackers or Tortilla Scoops.

Make sure EVERYONE has some of this dip or their breath won’t match the garlicky goodness of your own.

I may or may not have just eaten some of this leftover dip straight outta the container at 7:04am.

Don’t judge.

I cried. But I love the cheese. You do too, admit it.

You’ll cry too.

Cape Cod Chris…..

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Please God tell me that the Ali rejected, adorable, sweet, rainbow spotting Chris L. from Cape Cod is the new Bachelor. We need to be able to gawk at him a wee bit more.

Also, This new “Bachelor Pad” program (starts this coming Monday @ 8pm) looks disgusting and immoral. I can’t wait.

Ali, you and Roberto are adorbs. I concur, he’s the one for you. I know you were anxiously awaiting my approval.

I honestly used to consider the Bachelor/Bachelorette the most revolting/annoying thing on television. How did this compulsion become mine?? Clearly I fit the demo now. I feel shame.

But for realz..ABC….Chris L…the new Bachelor. Pleeeeeaaassseeee. Chris Harrison!! Are you listening??? I’m coming after your job too, by the way. Hostess of The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I can dig it. I’d actually do it for free.

Just one more pic of Mr. Adorable Rainbowpants for your viewing pleasure:
