Guess who’s super excited for this:

there are things you simply shouldn’t say to a pregnant girl, yet people cannot seem to help themselves. Perhaps my hormones are whacky and my patience thin due to exhaustion and nausea. That being said, I’m going to take this opportunity to do what ALL pregnant women want to do. Enlighten you on what NOT to say. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you’ve spurted forth one of these no-no phrases. Just please, in the name of all that is good and holy, don’t do it again. Here we go:

“Well, be careful how much weight you gain. Whatever you gain you’ll need to lose.”

Thanks for the tip. I had no idea. Jeesh.

“I was in labour for 5 days and they wouldn’t give me drugs and the nurses were horrible and the food was terrible and blah, blah, blah.”

Sorry about your luck. Perhaps you were being punished for some previous karmatic mistake.

“Get all the sleep you can now because once the baby comes…..”

WHOA! WHAT? Babies keep you up at night? Alert the newspapers! Hold the press!

“My sister had a 12 pound baby-no drugs.”

She’s my hero. Get the girl a cape. Call Oprah.

“You’re going to name the baby what?’

This is why I tell NO ONE our name choices. The kid’s last name will be ’Nutbrown.’ (My married name)  regardless of the child’s first name, he or she will be teased at some point. They’ll get over it. I did. Being called ‘Soup’ didn’t scar me for life.

I think the “things not to say or the pregnant girl may verbally abuse you in public” will be an ongoing list.

Now my wonderful readers, perhaps you’re wondering what IS appropriate to say to expectant moms. It’s a short list. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

“Congratulations!”

“You look lovely.”

Thanks for listening…..

Best Buds and Baby Bliss………..

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Thanks to all of our fabulous listeners (friends!) for all your warm wishes on my pregnancy. I can feel the love….and it feels good! Almost makes me forget about the nausea and overwhelming urge to sleep all the time. :)

One of the coolest things about the timing of this pregnancy is that 2 of my BFFs from high school and I are all having babies in the same year! Here’s a pic of us taken recently:

NOTE: *I’d post a pic of us from high school but I truly love these girls and want them to continue being my friends. Picture big bangs, denim and the misplacement of a lot of Cover Girl products. It was the 90′s. Don’t judge.*

That’s Kelly on the left. She had beautiful baby Isabella in December. She lives in New Orleans now and we miss her madly but can’t wait to visit and perhaps run into Brad Pitt. We all know how Brad loooves the babies…..

In the middle is Jennifer Anne. She is due with her first this July (my psychic Pisces tendancies are telling me it’s a boy.) Jenn and I travelled to Mexico this past winter with our hubbies and had a blast. Since she’s pregnant, she graciously let me drink her share of the margaritas. The jokes on me now because come this July her baby arrives and she’ll be having a Margarita and I’ll just be fat. Tee Hee.

You know the girl on the right……

These ladies (okay….sometimes we didn’t actually behave like ‘ladies’) and I have been through all life’s adventures together. Most of which will not be spilled on this blog in order to protect the guilty. HA!

We spent long days and nights at the beach. (The joys of growing up on Georgian Bay!)

We shared a million secrets.

We were country girls going to barn parties and breaking boys hearts all over town.

We shopped.

We laughed.

We cried.

We shared clothes, dreams and a beautiful bond that keeps us together still.

And now we get to share the gift and joys of motherhood together.

 What an incredibly beautiful blessing.

Kel, Jenn….you are simply the best.  My kindred spirit sisters. There are no two better broads to venture into mommyhood with…..I love you both.

Let’s hope these children of ours grow up together and share a friendship like ours.
