Reasons to celebrate! Shout from the school yards!

March 19th, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

Here I sit on the last day of Spring Break with Lyd Jeffrey and Mandy the puppy, who is of German descent and when we say ‘Speak!…she proceeds to the carpet and rolls over..it’s a language issue I’m sure! LOL. See the video on my Facebook Pages.

I have had a wonderful time off with the family with many walks and talks with the young Jeffrey along the way. Time to get back on the air on Monday.

I have been chatting with Crystal Shawanda and hubby Dewayne as you may have learned from the Q104 fan pages. They are so excited to be part of the Reba tour in Western Canada. She got to sing the duet’ Does he love you’ with Reba on stage. This is one of those ‘living the dreams’ that Dewayne told me about yesterday. Hope to connect with him on the morning show this coming week to chat about the tour and the next  Homecoming Jam #3, this summer in Wiki on Manitoulin Island. I will keep you posted! Check out www.crystalshawandaonline.com for more.

Congrats from this proud pappa to two of my children this morning. Mike has pulled off a 90 percent in college with a course he hated and most of us wanna barf thinking about in this Bizz..Accounting! Way to go son! We’re so proud of you. NOw final exam at the end of April and then I go fetch him and bring him back to the Soo.

Katelyn or ‘T’ as we call her, has been accepted to Western University in the fall with graduation from year 4 , French Teaching in June. I will be there in Sudbury standing up and yelling and generally making a complete ass of myself in front of hundreds..But hell, I don’t care..it’s my daughter. Lighten up snooty peeps! Way to go girl! You too do us proud!

Well off to get coffee’d up and continue this Spring Break journey and I’ll see you Monday on the radio.

Have a great weekend gang!

us-and-don-cherry.jpgjeffrey-ponders-chocolatewalking-with-papa.jpgcrystal.jpgCrystal is really excited to be hitting the road with Miss Reba as she blogs and you can check it out at www.crystalshawandaonline.com  and see where’s she a gonna be! we will track her road progress as usual since we consider her second home the Soo as she does too!

Watch for the kidlettes as Spring break has Sprung for them since this is a P.A. day for most. They will be outside in full force as the warm Spring like weather continues throughout this weekend and beyond! Keep the ‘TIDE’ handy as the days are muddy and wet in the ditches. I wrote a song for Spring Break many years ago nw, when my older kids Sarah, Katie and Mike were very small and it started like this, “Well it’s March , time for Spring break and all my kids are near, they’re in they’re out, clothes wet, I dry…by noon I need a beer!’ The smae holds true with Jeffrey junior now. He is really curious about this world and we will go for enlightening walks all week to discuss important life-changing matters. And other things like, “I thought YOU were Jeff and I am Jeffrey?” I changed my Facebook profile name to my birthname to prove the point that we have the same name, except I’m ’senior Jeffrey’ and he’s ‘junior ‘ Jeffrey. Too cute..too much fun..Keep it coming son, cause it’s really nice to laugh about life and all of its twists and turns.

I am off for the break and leave you guys in the capable ‘ears’ of Gary Creighton for your tuning in pleasure. Big things start Monday and I can only tease you about it at this point, but it will be well worth bending your ear for! The best part of my Staycation will be sleeping in to 7am, instead of 420am. Jeffrey and Lyd and me will walk the Many-meister often and get her used to other areas of the city. The Hub trail at the bottom of Finn hill comes to mind. I hope to see you out there too during the Spring Break.

Unemployment numbers are on the decline which is really good for our economy, levelling off about 8 percent, it’s lowest in 8 months. More than 60 thousand jobs created, so let’s keep that trend climbing. Some good news. Welcome news!

I have to get back on the air and talk about Jerry Seinfeld and the great Bill Cosby , who weighed in on Pants on the Ground. Bill says he’s never seen a gal look at a guy and say, “Nice crack!’ Old Bill still has it..one of the funniest men on the planet.

Have a great Spring break. Drive safely and play hard!

beaner-beatles-walkin-buddy.jpgThe weather is a hot topic among coworkers and listeners alike. It is absoulutely incredible. We will take it.

The boys performed on Idol Season 9 lastnight and there was some great talent. According to my Q am poll, 70 percnet of you think it will be a female to take the American Idol crown soon. We shall see. The guys did well lastnight.

It’s play day’ Winter Carnival’ at Jeffrey’s school today and the lot and yard is like one big mud bowl. Wish your TIDE luck parents and guardians, to get clothes clean. Of course, we buy Jeffrey a white jacket. DUH???!!

Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead an hour this weekend as we gain an hour or more of daylight trading for an hour of losing sleep. Spring forward..Fall back, as the saying goes.

Off to find some more coffee to wake up this tired dj’s brain. It’s one of those sleep-deprived days and nights.

Chit chat with you tomorrow on the radio!

2654_74921504497_771074497_2260938_626407_n.jpgCould you paint me a Birmingham? Love that tune..played it today on the air on the radio show. What a great message. ‘For 20 dollars, I can paint you anything!’ “Son just where in this picture would you like to be?’ Paint me back into her arms again. Wow! I love country music lyrics. Tell such a fantastic story. So emotional. So moving. So wonderful. Ok I’m getting sappy.

A big shout-out to all the gang at World Cars Hyundai where I ‘remoted’ on location featuring the newly designed 2011 Sonata!! Wow! plus the all newly designed 2011 Tucson. Had a blast. Out of doors with the Fedora on and suntan lotion abounding on March 9th? It got to nearly 15 degrees. Bring it. A customer said we’re done with winter since he studies birds and says the crows are building their summer homes. I’ll buy into that!

Do you think the winner of Season 9 American Idol will be male or female? That’s the Q poll question this am. Thanks for such great responses. We appreciate your honesty and participation.

Set those clocks ahead this weekend! We lose an hour’s sleep but we gain some daylight! Sounds good to me. Follow the simple rule, “Spring forward, Fall back’.

chat on the radio in the morning!

T’was a big wonderful walk!

March 9th, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

beaner-beatles-walkin-buddy.jpgwe-walk-after-wii-play.jpgOver, up down and back.. a walk with my boy Jeffrey jr. yesterday was so much fun and it makes me smile! Jeffrey and I did a 14 km walk in the warm Soo sun and it felt like mid May, although in Mid May last year on mom’s birthday May 16th it was snowing in the city. We chatted about everything. A seven year old has so many questions and I love this time with the lad, it keeps ME young. It also amazes me he did not tire and was raring to go after we got back to the Mcneice Ranch. Can’t wait for the next early March walk. Thanks Beener!

Sad news on the local paper front with St. Mary’s shutting down operations, laying off it’s staff. This will have a big negative impact on our local economy. Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the workers and their families.

Ontario undefeated at the Brier! Go hurry hard!! Sweep! Keep on rockin’!

Make sure your youngsters have their rubber boots handy as it’s really muddy and sloppy out there.

Brad Paisley tweets ‘He’s sore’ after a fall at a concert. You can check it out on YOUTUBE. he thought his rib was broken but it turns out it is not. He was a trooper and even slapped hands with the fans after the fall but the peeps did not see him wisked off by ambulance to hospital afterwards. Now that’s guts!

Chat tomorrow on the radio. Enjoy the weather!

LOOOOOOOONG OSCAR SHOW!!ZZ’S!

March 8th, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

wii-is-tired-after-12-kmscold.jpgsteve-and-alex.jpghurt-locker.jpgWell the 82nd annual Oscar show went almost to the 84th! Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin did ok, but I found kinda boring for the most part. Bring back Billy Crystal! Sandra Bullock won as did Jeff Bridges. A couple of movies Lyd and I will have to see this season. I think Jeff thinks he really is Kris Kristopherson as he now looks just like him, don’t you find? His speech was almost as slurred lastnight as he thanked his mom and dad and Lloyd for sitting on the bed and teaching him simple acting for his role in the series “Sea Hunt”! Sandra thanked her mom and that was sweet!..The Hurt Locker won for picture of the year, beating out the box office record-breaker ‘Avatar which got far fewer academy awards than expected.

What a fantastic weekend and weather seems to be a month ahead of last year as my son Jeffrey and I strolled around town chatting about life and death. He says’ Well daddy, heaven is more beautiful than this place. I says ‘Yes it is son, but you don’t need to go there just yet!” You still have to be a bounty hunter and a daddy and hubby and grandpa yourself right?. “Yes’, he said ‘when I’m 30 or something I’ll make a lot of money as a bounty hunter!’ I love these moments with the boy as he makes me laugh and forget about all the adult problems of the day. Poppa was the only one missing in the walk. Dad would have just grinned hearing some of this ‘deep talk’. Jeffrey even carried the ‘walking stick’ poppa made the last time we walked together at Christmas. Mom and dad move into their digs in Brighton in May, sop we wish them all the best in the new home!

The pneumonia kicked the crap out of the family and still hacking up but on the mend hopefully. A simple cold got through the sinus travelling to the lungs and hanging out there long enough to kick in the infection. The big pills did their Thang! and helped a ton.

NOW, back on the air and chatting the academy awards walks and the great weather.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Jeffrey sr.

TGIF ! Bring on the weekend!

March 5th, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

Hope Friday afternoon finds you well. Are you headed for the Home and Outdoor show at the Essar? Hope you find Spring there and enjoy all this abundant sunshine here in the Soo.

Can’t wait to rest up after a couple of crazy days back at work while battling Pneumonia. It’s a slow recovery and I want it to be done! No patience for it as I have things to do.

According to the opinion poll, lots of you plan on staying here in the Soo over March Break or not travelling at all mostly due to financial restraints. I so hear ya. I’m taking the week of with Jeffrey to explore and walk and talk and have some time together. Time is very inexpensive to spend with family yet o priceless and rewarding as a parent. Hope you can do the same.

Now I must go let the weekend begin, fetch the lad and find out how Junior’s day went in Grade one. There’s so much drama. It’s like a kids’ soap opera, but I love every minute of it. Catch you in the am, on the radio!

One down one more to go to the weekend!

March 4th, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

telethon-2009.jpgHey gang! Well I sweated through my first morning show back still fighting Pneumonia. Man it’s kickin me in the ass and the respiratory passages and everywhere else I sall be kicked! I am not one to sit on my butt and when health issues force me to, I get a little squirrely to say the least. The anti-biotics are fast-acting but they also zap your good cells while taking care of the infection, so needless to say, I’m pooped. Oh well on with the show and I loved being back with you and chatting it up on the radio. I love this job and I consider myself very fortunate to have it. I’m in year 26 and it feels like I just started spinning records and rollin tapes and pointing my finger at Craig Perdue in the news booth in front of me, not the ‘bird finger’ but to let him know he shall start delivering the Q104 News from the Newscenter. It’s live and I am proud to say our whole ’show’ from 5:30am to 9am is really live. That’s saying something in this day and age with modern new technologies. When you call me, I shall answer the phone. Imagine that, really there taking that call.

I have to agree with the masses on the Q am poll this morning when I asked you if Simon was ‘over-botoxed’. Sheesh he could hardly move his mouth on Idol lastnight. 85 per cent of you agree! It looks like he’s had a stroke which is not good in my estimation. Celebrities have gone too far , I think. Just go with what God gave you is what I say. You mess around and you’ll lose your laugh lines and be pulled so tight you can’t speak. Like my hero Kenny Rogers, who admitted after his last eye lift, it was horribly wrong and looked like he could not blink. He had to get it re-done. Barry Manilow looks like Barry Manikin now. Yikes, it’s scary. He may write the songs that make the whole world sing, but he needs to relieve some of that facial pressure from the ‘job’ , because he ‘Can’t smile without you!”Reminds me of the worst ‘lift’ I’ve ever seen and that was Steve Lawrence the old standards singer who was a really great looking guy with lines that showed laughter and a big smile. After the surgery he looked like he was frightened out of his tree and could not close his eyes. They were rounded and all the ’squint’ was gone! Bad, just bad. Of course Joan Rivers brags about half a million she’s put out for ‘the work’. Whe she gets a fresh lift she looks awful and can’t even speak with all the words and syllables and it looked like the droool would start to escape from the sides of her puffed-up mouth YIKES!

Mandy is feeling great and the stiches were removed this week from the great folks at the vet with the great staff who love our puppy. She’s a hugger! Maye it’s the breed and that’s why they have such long front limbs to get them around your neck.

Lyd is ’sizing’ pics at the radio station as I blog and we will have a couple to show off at qcountry.ca shortly. Who likes their pics right? Not Barry Manilow , Kenny Rogers, Joan Rivers and Steve Lawrence. Old Zsa Zsa Gabor’s have all sunk in her 90’s. I guess finally she’s faced the truth as she nears 100, she stays pretty much to herself, confined to a wheelchair and not happy about the immobility she faces with everyday life.

Speaking of getting mobile it is almost time to don the t-shirts and get set for tv with the Easter Seal telethon for my buddies who need our help. Each and every  year I join iin with Jill Braido and Jim Cronin and host the telethon which will be live on Shaw tv Channel 10 on Sunday March 28th . Visit www.rotarysault.com for more details and how you can help us, help our friends.

See you on the radio in the morning. Back to enjoy Jeffrey as we chat about the day’s events at his school and ready our sets for Survivor, Heroes and Villians. It’s one of our favs , as is Dancing With The Stars soon to be occupying a ton of our free time. Pamela Anderson, Shannon Doherty and many others will compete for this season’s mirror ball trophy.

Treat me gently!

March 3rd, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

Well I’ve been off with Pneumonia for three daze and it’s time to climb out from under my covers and get back on the radio. It will be the half-Jeff show Thursday morning as I’m still hacking up lungs and stuff. Not a fun infection at all but I need to get back on the air and get the crap moving on out! If ya know what I mean as I’m sure you have had family in this situation with virus and infection over the last little while. Seems these days that small colds turn quickly to infection in a very short period of time.

Still reeling with the over the top Canadian pride after the 14 history-making GOLDEN moments of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic winter games. But it’s back to work with the NHL’ers and trade deadline looms big! Did you feel a little depressed and missing after the games ended and it was back to reality? I sure did. It was not a difficult task to get ‘into the groove’ with the smiling and proud Canadian athletes. Ya done us proud! Canada Rocks and does own the podium in my estimation.

So happy to see shovels in the ground for another part of the Hub Trail at the Fort Creek site. It’s going to be complete in October and you will still be able to enjoy the area this summer with only a once in awhile interruption or so they say. Meantime we get to use the Finn Hill portion again and again. It’s such a great walk or ride whichever you prefer. Hundreds and thousands have already utilized the nice 5km stretch. Even in the middle of winter when Jeffrey and I strolled it along with my dad. poppa once, folks were walking the doggies and strolling with the family. It’s a safe, clean and picturesque surrounding. Hope you get to enjoy it this season. Spring and March break and running water and budding trees and greening grass and I have to tell you I’ve been looking forward to these longer days since Fall ended. Must be the age thang. The feeling of a changing season is definitely in the air! Bring it!

Try to recognize the voice in the morning on Q104, it really is me, although portions of the banter will drop off I’m sure as it’s a slow road to recovery with this thing. But I’ll do my best and look forward to hearing your thoughts and playing your songs!

See, Team Canada GOLDEN girls! Our game!HA!

February 26th, 2010 by jeff.mcneice

canal-skate-accomplished.jpgWell, it was a terrific game as we blanked the cocky U.S. women’s hockey team and pushed them to listen to OUR anthem. The U.S. girls got me all fired up with their pre-game taped interviews about what they would do to us in ‘our bar’ and how they thought the local crowd would be a distraction and liablilty. Well! HAHA!! NOT!!! Way to go Team GOLDEN GIRLS!Ya done us proud. I’m feeling very Canadian today! In fact I better go by a ‘car flag’ afore they sell out, to display my outward pride. Men could be gettin er done too over the next couple days. Curling for women and men could get us to the GOLD medal on the podium as well.

Snow is actually accumulating today as we’ve avoided most forecasts for the white stuff. Let’s just al go out there and will it away.

Monday morning I start another great call the show contest at 750 called , Q104’s what year was it? You gues the year and if you get the call in, you receive 100 points just for getting through, plus 200 points for a 300 point total . If you don’t get the right call, you still get 100 points at qcountry.ca ! Good luck. It’s all about #1’s on tv, at the movies and on the Billboard and Q104 country music charts.

Coughin up both lungs today and hope it goes away soon.

Cough with ya tomorrow morning.

have a super weekend!!!Go Canada!
