Stay-cation: [stey-key-shuhn] (noun) A stay-at-home-vacation.

Can these really be fun? I hope so ’cause that’s what the Graham family is doing this summer. My brother Bob is coming for a visit so that should be fun but what else are we going to do? Watch TV? Nap? Sure, that’s fun for the first couple of days but what then?

If you’ve got any good stay-cation ideas…I’ll take ‘em!

    Hi Jeff!

You’ll have to drive across a bridge, but I just visited the Museum of Civilization for the first time in a while. They have this ‘Mythic Beasts’ exhibit that I was just blown away by. There’s dragons and unicorns and all the stuff you know; plus Vodou seagoddesses from the Caribbean and other stuff that you probably don’t!

They also have part of the Queen’s stamp collection, which is actually more interesting than it sounds, and a very extensive, interactive, well-put-together exhibit on the postal service that I unfortunately did not have the time/energy to peruse as much as I would have liked!

The IMAX show ‘Under the Sea’ is also very pretty and even has a touch of humour (it’s narrated by Jim Carrey).

Hope you have fun on your stay-cation.

Have you thought about Merrickville? Great place to go wander around. Also, how about fishing at Thistle Springs Trout Farm in Ashton?
We often stay-cation as it is so expensive to go anywhere these days. Enjoy!

    My suggestions are:
-Breakfast or lunch at the bagelshop in Westboro (between Parkdale and Island Park, red roofs). Sundays at noon-2pm there is usually live folk music
-Check UOttawa music department for free concerts
-Rent a bike by the canal under Wellington and take a ride below the parliament by the river, non-Ottawa people love the view. If you have a chance stop at the Coronel By museum by the locks, is small but super interesting
-Watch the Ottawa Rowing Club races on Thursdays nights from the club’s boathouse (Sussex by the river between the Mint and NRC), everybody is welcome and there is delicious BBQ with beer
-Go to O’Brien’s Pub in Heron for Saturday night karaoke
-Go to 275 Elgin on Friday nights for some latin dancing (8-9pm free lessons)
    -Rollerblade by the canal
-Visit the farmers markets and eat there
-Go strawberry picking and make crepes on the way back (recipe available upon request)
Well, if you want more ideas let me know, I have a few more.
Good luck! I miss you at the radio but it is ok to know you are in stay-cations.
