Toronto FC lost just one player in the MLS expansion draft Wednesday afternoon. Forward O’Brian White was selected by Vancouver in the sixth round of the two team draft. Portland chose first overall and went with Dallas midfielder Dax McCarty. The Vancouver Whitecaps chose Sanna Nyassi from Seattle with their first pick joining MLS.
In losing White Toronto FC pretty much comes away unscathed from this draft. Once White was chosen by The Whitecaps, TFC pulled back Julian De Guzman and his 1.7-million dollars.
O’Brian White was a frustrating case for TFC last season. There were flashes of potential, but too many games it seemed for whatever reason, White was uninterested in competing. Maybe the Whitecaps will have the dynamics that will allow White to flourish.
I spoke with a TFC front office member today who told me they have not yet signed, but like 22 year old Dutch winger Bas Ent. Last season Ent played in an exhibition game for TFC vs Bolton. In limited time, TFC brass at the time said they liked what they saw.
