this on the heels of massive cuts and lay offs…

and of course, closer to home, on a provincial level we face the divestment of the ONTC.
Timing is everything they say; I say, the timing sucks. I’m not saying I’m totally against the idea of supporting arts and heritage, but is right now the right time? What say you?
V’s.O.D…Northern Ontario Fires
Monday, May 28th, 2012
If you haven’t, here’s some of the footage found on youtube of the fires…some pretty incredible footage, and given the circumstances, amazing that there hasn’t been more destruction or other unfortunate incidents. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our Northern Ontario brothers and sisters and the First Responders for working so tirelessly and doing such a great job…and for the B.C. crews that are now on scene!

Casual Friday (So what if it was on a Thursday)
Friday, May 25th, 2012
I’m no manager…I’m no sales rep…I’m a radio DJ on a rock n’ roll station. It’s the summer time, and it’s hot. I’m a personality and some of that comes out in my fashion; the clothes I wear…and yesterday, there were a few cracks made about my “attire”.
The question I have for you is this:
Did I take “Casual Friday” too far on a Thursday at the Radio Station?

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012
For those not on facebook, here you are:
The process for removing the tractor trailer from the accident scene commenced this morning, Wednesday May 23. At this time it is expected Highway 63 will be reopened this evening; however Silver Lady Lane will remained closed.
Hazardous Waste Response teams are on site and remediation has commenced working from the accident scene towards Trout Lake. Remediation consists of removal of contaminated soils and plants. The extent of this removal will be based on the total area exposed by the spill..
The evacuation of Silver Lady Lane remains in place and efforts are underway to reduce the impacted area. The Hazardous Response Team, Ministry of Environment, Health Unit, Fire Services and Police Services will be assessing this situation this afternoon.
With respect to water quality, the City’s piped water system remains secure and safe for consumption. The Health Unit continues to advise those drawing directly from Trout Lake to find alternate sources of water. Those drawing water from a well, outside the impacted area of Silver Lady Lane, are not impacted by the formaldehyde spill.
Evacuated residents are asked to contact Deputy Chief Mike Bechard at 705-474-0626 ext. 4802. General inquiries can be directed to 705-474-0626 ext. 2333.
Inquiries about water quality and health issues can be addressed to the Health Unit at 705-474-1400.

Temagami needs our help to claim the title of Ultimate Fishing Town.
The community has entered an online contest in hopes of winning the grand prize of $25,000.
Mike Drenth, a Temagami resident who is helping spearhead the contest, said the money would be used toward the community’s walleye restocking program.
He said the prize also includes a television feature on the World Fishing Network.
As of Monday at 11:30 a.m., Temagami was in third place with 11,287 votes. Currently in second place is Port Colborne with 13,663 votes and Hastings is in first place with 13,672 votes. “We’ve done really well, but without the help from our big brothers north and south of us there’s no way (we can win).”
The contest runs until the end of May. The public can vote up to four times per day. Each voting period runs for six hours and starts on the six and 12 hour marks. (taken from The Nugget)

What’s that? A kids’ song you say…
Tuesday, May 1st, 2012
While I may not be a parent yet, I have an understanding that there are certain topics that will need to be addressed that you’ll never be ready for, so the last thing you need is to have it thrust upon you when you least expect it.
