Hey Got Gamers,

Every once and a while Microsoft will offer a free weekend of Xbox Live to get you interested in their service. The next free weekend will be this Thursday, April 19th to Monday, April 23rd, and for the first time ever those video entertainment applications that Microsoft has rolled out over the last 6 or so months (like MLB.TV) will be among the free services you can use.

MLB.TV specifically will be offering all the baseball games that they would normally air this weekend for free. One of the draw backs to MLB.TV is that local games are blacked out due to contractual obligations with television networks, so I won’t expect any Blue Jays games to be among the ones that you can watch. However, if you wanted to see the Yankees go against Boston on Friday, than this could work out nicely for you.

Real Sports (the application from MLSE) will be the other big sports entertainment application offering free content. They’ll be offering a 48-hour pass for GOLTV Canada specifically, but that will give you free access to the Real Madrid vs Barcelona game on Saturday April 21st at 1:55pm EST.

Below is a list of applications available on Xbox LIVE in case you’re interested. Many, like the Crackle application from Sony Pictures, are constantly offering free content 24/7:

  • Crackle (a free but ad-supported version of Netflix from Sony Pictures)
  • Dailymotion
  • MSN
  • Real Sports (Maple Leaf Sports)
  • Netflix
  • Rogers On Demand Online (Rogers Media)
  • TMZ (Warner Bros.)
  • UFC on Xbox LIVE (UFC)
  • VEVO
  • YouTube
  • MLB.TV (MLB Advanced Media)
