NHL 11 Rookie Challenge
Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Momin, Calhoun, and I ventured down to the Westin Harbour Castle to watch quite the ensemble of NHL Rookies duke it out in EA Sports’ NHL 11.
On the bottom-right corner of the bracket, you’ll see the Leafs’ draft pick from last year, Nazem Kadri.
On the top-left, you’ll notice that the wonderful folk from EA orchestrated a first round match-up between this past draft’s top two picks – Taylor Hall (1st) and Tyler Seguin (2nd). Just to ensure there was the dream meeting.
However, while they may be comparable on-ice, on the PS3 there was no question that Hall was the dominant force (5-1, I believe it was).
As we watched on, everyone had assumed that Hall would be meeting up with the elite danglist, himself, in Kadri.
However, Kadri blew a 2-0 first period lead, and ended up falling 5-2 to Ryan McDonagh of the Rangers.
Looking to the bracket above, you’ll see that McDonagh went on to win the final (after Hall upheld his end of the bargain), to claim a copy of NHL 11, a PS3, a poster signed by all of the other rooks in attendance, in addition to as many finger-sandwiches as he could stomach in the day (we assume).
After Kadri’s loss, we got a chance to speak to the former 7th overall pick, who’s not a well-versed gamer (in mostly the NHL series as we find out) but is expected to crack the Maple Leafs roster. Check it out.
We also got a chance to speak with NHL 11 producer Sean Ramjagsingh about the upgrades and differences from this last year’s game, and how they’re trying to dominate the entire sports gaming stratosphere (having already knocked out 2K).
For the audio, tune in to this week’s LIVE edition of Got Game, Saturday at 10am on The FAN590.
