Hey Got Gamers,

If you haven’t heard yet, Microsoft has rebuilt the Xbox360 controller to include a D-Pad that is more responsive. However, why should I steal the thunder from Major Nelson? In this video that we found on youtube, Major Nelson explains the changes to their controller.

Thanks to Major Nelson and Microsoft for making and hosting that video on youtube. A picture may speak a 1000 words, but sometimes video is still needed.

Hey Got Gamers,

I hope everyone had a great time at the FAN EXPO this weekend. However, if you were like me (and were to busy with work to go), or if you just want to relive some great moments, take a second to check out the photos that Zack took from the convention’s floor.

And once you’re done looking at those photos, you can click the audio file below this sentence to hear the post-broadcast podcast for Got Game’s August 28th 2010 show.

Hey Got Gamers,

This week’s show ended up being a Xbox360-centric episode. That’s because this week we spent a lot of time talking about our trip to Micosoft’s X’10 event, and the many motion control games (like Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, and even Kinect Joy Ride) that we tried there.

joyride10.jpg

On top of that, we had a chance to check out a number of the major titles coming out for the Xbox360 this holiday season; but to hear our opinions of those games, you’ll have to listen to this week’s post-broadcast podcast (in the audio file below this sentence).

And finally here is the Sporcle quiz that that Momin mentioned in his parting shot.

Medal of Honour Controversy

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

This past Sunday morning, Momin was invited onto the FAN590′s Sport Central with Alex Seixeiro, to talk about the Medal of Honour Controversy. Here is their 15 minute long conversation regarding the world’s reaction to the Taliban being part of the new Medal of Honour game.

[audio:http://pmd.fan590.com/audio_on_demand/MOH-gg-20100822.mp3]

Alex and Momin also referenced a few news stories during their Medal of Honor discussion. Here is the story of British Defense Secretary Liam Fox, calling for Medal of Honor to be banned. Also, here is the story of a San Jose mother who feels that this game should be held back for a number of years until the wounds of the current war, and of losing her son during that war, heal a bit more.

Hey Got Gamers,

It’s time for this week’s Got Game show blog, so everyone follow Ken’s lead, and just dance.

And because I can’t think of anything that is more epic than the Dancing Ken image, let me simply say that here is the post-broadcast podcast of our August 14th show.

This week on Got Game we discuss:

Plus our reviews of:

Madden NFL 11

Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Video Game

Need for Speed World

And just like the Madden games, we have our very own curse. We’re forever cursed to have far to much content, and far to little time to cover the gaming industry, during our single hour. Therefore, we have some extra web-only content for you this week. First off, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a downloadable title that comes out this Wednesday, August 18th. To give us an idea of what to expect, here is Calhoun’s chat with Forest Swartout Large, a producer working on Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

[audio:http://pmd.fan590.com/audio_on_demand/croft-gg-20100814.mp3]

Also, we took some pictures of ourselves during our hands on time with the PlayStation Move controller. Here are some of those images, including Zack wearing the new 3D goggles; and many images showing the emphasis on using the camera to create custom game avatars.

Some Trailers We Think You Should See

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Hey Got Gamers,

I have a couple of awesome trailers I think that every gamer needs to see. The first is the trailer for the new Bioshock Infinite Game that we discussed on this weekend’s show.

The next is Playstation’s answer to the DSi title Photo-Dojo. I am not sure how fun it will be as a game, but it does seem to be a very impressive demonstration of how the console can utilize the Playstation Eye a little moreso.

And the winner is…

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Congratulations to Bryan T., winner of the Alan Wake DLC code.

Hey Got Gamers!

If you’re looking to win the Alan Wake DLC code that Calhoun is giving away, hurry and scroll to the bottom of this post. Everyone else should stay right here, because we have the post-broadcast-podcast version of this week’s Got Game, in the audio file below this sentence.

[audio:http://goo.gl/fb/Oi78i]

This week on Got Game we discuss:

  • The EA Sports cover curse peeking its head out from the darkness as another cover athlete is out due to a knee injury
  • How the recently confirmed Xbox360 and PS3 versions of NBA JAM will only be available as part of another game
  • The huge Greathouse update that Natural Motion hopes will fix most of Backbreaker’s problems
  • And we talk about the upcoming Madden game in our interview with Madden 11′s senior producer Phil Frazier

|
This week we also played a clip from Calhoun’s interview with Virgin Gaming’s CEO Rob Segal; and like we said in this week’s show, you can hear that whole interview here.

Plus we have our reviews of Starcraft 2

And the new Alan Wake DLC: The Signal

Speaking of the new Alan Wake DLC, Calhoun promised to give away his code in this very show blog; so here are the rules that you need to follow to win:

1. Put you answer in the reply box at the bottom of this post (the box that looks like this).

untitled.jpg

2. Include your email so that we can email you the code if you win (emails will not be published).

3. Be the first person to answer the following trivia question. “IT’S A GAME!  ________!” is a famous, but partial Got Game quote that is missing 1 word. What is the missing word from this quote?

A clue to what the missing word is, can be found in the first 8 minutes of our 1 year anniversary show.

Hey Got Gamers!

Have you seen the new multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops yet? If not, here you go.

I am willing to admit that it’s far more interesting then I thought it would ever be. Despite the belief that Treyarch spends all their development time copying Infinity Ward, this trailer shows some new innovations like:

  •  stationary camera that you can use to keep an eye on some section of the map while looking at another
  • crossbows
  • remote control cars with C4 on them

|
Now let’s be honest with ourselves, that all AT LEAST sounds awesome. However, the whole world of Black Ops multiplayer, in this trailer specifically, looks really shiny. To shiny in my opinion; walls, stationary objects, weapons, and even people seem to have a strange reflective capability that concerns me for 2 reasons:

  1. Having everything shiny isn’t that realistic, and while no one is going to claim that this franchise is realistic, there is no point in forcing the issue by making everything look like it was dipped in lacquer
  2. But more importantly the last game I played that reflected light this much was Perfect Dark Zero, and I stopped playing that game rather quickly due to the fact that all the shiny surfaces hurt my eyes

|
But in the end this is just a trailer after all. I have my concerns yes, but will hold final judgment until this game is released.
