This past week Microsoft Canada and the Children’s Miracle Network announced the launch of the Mission 4 Miracles (M4M) program; a charitable program designed to raise funds and awareness for the 14 children’s hospitals operating in Canada.

But why should we take the thunder of 3 people who’ve worked so hard to make this happen? To explain how M4M works and helps, here are Eric Gales (President of Microsoft Canada), John Hartman (Chief International Officer of the Children’s Miracle Network) and Tobin Haas (a 10 year old cancer survivor).

Basically, gamers can purchase exclusive content on Xbox Live, and the points from those sales will be donated to the Children’s Miracle network. Some of that M4M content will come in the form of gamerpics or themes created by renowned graffiti artists Patrick Thompson and Alaxa Hatanaka. We had a chance to talk to Patrick Thompson, along with Steve Montador (of the Buffalo Sabres) who happened to be near by at the time, about their contributions to M4M.

While Patrick Thompson’s contribution is obviously much more physical and up front, celebrity’s like Steve Montador will offer something different to M4M: time. Specifically, they will take time to interact with members of XBL during rounds of the new XBL game: Avatar Golf. We asked Cheryl Bernard, Canadian Olympic Silver Medallist in Curling, about volunteering time to play games with the public for charity.

In the end, the best part about M4M is that all proceeds from the total sales of Avatar Golf, the themes, and the gamerpics (plus anything else added to M4M later) will go to help the 14 hospitals in Canada provide specialized medical care, research, and education that could save and improve the lives of sick children across Canada.
