I really hope you were able to get to the HALO 3: ODST launch party in the distillery district last night, but if you were unable to make it then let this journal be your guide to the incredible world of ODST training.

I probably should start this post by admitting to you all that I was a little worried that this whole event would be a flop. Halo fans (and I know this because I count myself as a Halo fan) are extremely loyal people; but it rained most of Monday, so I was wondering how much of that loyalty would hold. Thankfully, my trust in you was greatly repaid as I was welcomed by a large line of people waiting for their chance to pistol whip a few grunts.  From about 6 pm to at least 9:30 pm the line in front of the Fermenting Cellar was this long or longer; proving that we ODST are a tough group.

Like the people on the right side of the above picture, my drill instructors immediately recognized my skill and had me stand at attention while they drilled into me the rules of the ODST. However, I refuse to accept the fact that I am any less special because of the fact that they treated everyone this way.

We started off training with a stop in this classroom were we watched an instructional video made by everyone’s favorite Sergeant Major, Avery J. Johnson. We were not able to learn for the Sergeant for long though. The Sergeant’s a busy man after all, and we had loads to keep us busy ourselves. As soon as the instructional video was done my class of recruits were rushed into a large hall with other recruits to test the lessons our instructors had taught us so far.

For hours, we brave few… we band of brothers practiced…

and practiced.

Along the way ODST Drill instructors gave us tips and taught us neat tricks to help us defeat the Covenant.

We drilled under their hawk like eyes while the results of our efforts were placed on big screen monitors for all to see…

and to grade.

We made a lot of progress in a very short time, which was excellent news to our ODST Drill instructors, because little did we know that the Convenant forces were so very close to Earth already.

And if you are wondering about the game itself, well all signs point to get this one ASAP. I talked to a lot of gamers at the event that night, and overall everyone was digging the Firefight mode a lot. The general concensus seems to be that this game will not let you down when it comes to multiplayer, and after playing it myself I have to agree with that. Firefight is a fresh take on a multiplayer system that I honestly have to say was starting to feel a little done.

And I am sure that you are curious about how the single player campaign will stack up. Well recruits, the UNSC has dictated that, that information will be released during this week’s Got Game. Tune us in this Saturday at 5 pm on the FAN590 and www.FAN590.com for our ODST review and much much more.
