Bring On The Bowl
Monday, January 31st, 2011
After a week off from playoff football and an uneventful Pro Bowl(does anybody watch this?), the NFL is gearing up for Superbowl 45 in Dallas!
As a Steelers fan I am especially pumped for the big game, hoping my boys can win their 7th overall title and third in the last five years. They will be in tough against another team with a lot of history, the Green Bay Packers.
As much as I hate to say it, I actually picked the Pack to win the Superbowl before the start of the season. Truth be told, I never expected the Steelers to be there this year. I figured with Ben Roethlisberger suspended for the early part of the season, that the Steelers may have dug themselves into a hole they couldn’t get out of. Fortunately the Steelers defence came through and proved to be the difference maker in many games this season.
Superbowl week gets ramped up on Tuesday with Media Day set to go at Cowboys Stadium and come Sunday evening let’s hope we’re enjoying a game for the ages as two teams with rich history hit the field for Superbowl 45!
The fans are already amped up. I’ve seen Steelers and Packers fans sporting toques, jerseys and jackets over the past couple of weeks, hoping their team would make it to the big game. The songs have been sung as well, with tribute tunes for both teams all over the internet. My personal favourite is the Steelers Polka. Check it out below!
Fan photos are also beginning to make their way onto the world wide web this week. Check out the picture of some newborns in terrible towels in this blog!

We thought we would put together some of our favourites. We’ll play some clips tomorrow morning during our show…in the meantime, I leave you with this clip of Jim Carey on Saturday Night Live. One of the funniest workout videos! Vera

Money For Nothing is a hot topic!
Friday, January 14th, 2011
25 years after its release, the Dire Straits hit “Money For Nothing” is making big news again. After a Newfoundland radio listener complained about the use of the word “faggot” in the song, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has ruled that “Money For Nothing” violates the broadcasting code of ethics. The CBSC is a self-governing regulatory body for Canada’s private broadcasters. Some argue it is a victory for gay rights, while others say it’s going too far and that it constitutes censorship.
Some radio stations will edit the song for airplay, but others are challenging the ruling, saying they will continue to play the song as is. Radio stations in Edmonton and Halifax have plans to play the song back to back and continuously for a full hour tonight(January 14th) to protest the ruling.
The Fox went to the web and the airwaves this morning to get your thoughts. 91% of listeners who took our online poll say the song should be played in its original form and all of the callers to the morning show said the same thing, including Davey Meloy. Have a listen to our discussion with Davey below.

Ice Fishing Gone Horribly Wrong!
Thursday, January 13th, 2011
Nothing ruins a day of ice fishing quite like your vehicle going through the ice; in fact an SUV went through the ice near the end of the outlet pipe of the sewage treatment plant on Memorial Drive earlier this week. Ouch! Thankfully no one was injured.
Be careful out there and here’s hoping you’re catching some fish this winter. A big thanks to Fox listener Don St. Michel who sent me this slide show. Have a look at “Ice Fishing Gone Horribly Wrong”!

Beard or No Beard?
Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
Mitch and I had a conversation after the Christmas holidays about his new look. He has been sporting a beard, which I can only assume started with too many rushed mornings with no time to shave. I have asked him the reason behind why he decided to grow one, but he really hasn’t given me a real answer…except, that he “kind of likes it”. I just so happened to have a pre-beard picture of Mitch, so I took one with his new beard.
What’s your opinion? Beard or no beard…that is the question.
The Lakers did our troops proud!
Sunday, January 9th, 2011
What a great night! I just got home from the Lakers game, where they completely wiped out RMC! In addition to a 6-0 win, our Nipissing Lakers did our troops proud. This game was really special. The opening ceremony honouring our troops was a moving experience. To stand at attention for the singing of our national anthem and look across the ice at our troops in their military gear saluting our flag, it was something I will always remember. I am proud to be a part of a community that showed up in a sea of red as a symbol of support and appreciation! It was a reminder that these brave men and women keep us safe every day.
