Where’s Santa?

Friday, December 24th, 2010

When you were young, you knew that Santa would come on Christmas eve…but when?  Santa has so many houses to visit on Christmas, it’s hard for us to track the big guy.  It’s a good thing that NORAD has state of the art equipment to do just that.  Norad will be providing the latest Santa Claus travel information as he begins his journey around the world dropping off gifts and putting them under the tree for all the good boys and girls.  noradsanta.org is a web site you want to mark as a favorite.  The web site also has all kinds of games and information.

Merry Christmas and Happy Tracking!

The Smells of the Holiday Season!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

As the holiday season approaches I am reminded of the smells associated with this time of year.  The scent of a fresh-cut pine tree in your living room, Grandma’s homemade cookies baking in the oven, the aroma of Mom’s turkey coming from the kitchen on Christmas day.  Let’s not forget the egg nog with Christmas dinner and the apple cider before a Christmas day toboggan ride.

I’m sure you have your own memories of the scents associated with Christmas.  I know the kids in this video below do!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at the Fox.  Here’s a Fox Rock Star bonus code worth 1,000 points.  Just head to our website and enter Santa in the bonus code section to earn your points.

The Metrodome Roof Collapse

Monday, December 13th, 2010

It was unbelievable!  The cameras were rolling when the roof collapsed at the Metrodome stadium where the Minnesota Vikings play.  The collapse forced the cancellation of yesterdays Vikings/New York Giants game, which was moved to tonight in Detroit.

Check out the video of the roof giving out.

The Sweater

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Mitch and I were talking about the worst Christmas gifts ever…and you let us know about some pretty crappy presents!  Mitch admitted to getting a Bay City Rollers album from his Grandma.  I got a hand knit pink sweater with a big yellow picture of Tweety Bird on it.  How about a can of Salmon, some Cold FX, or some knee high vinyl blue boots?  Let me know about the worst gift you’ve received.

There is a plus side though; Derek tells me I can have his slap chop!

So this year if you get a gift that you may re-wrap and pass on next year, remember, it could always be worse…and someone else may like it!

Happy gift giving!!

Crash Kelly Comes Home For The Holidays

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

North Bay’s own Sean Kelly of Crash Kelly fame comes home for the holidays to perform at The Fox and Fiddle on Thursday, December 23rd.  This is going to be a fantastic show and I hope you’ll join me there that night.  Not only is Sean one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever met, he is also a genuinely nice guy.  Sean will be joined by some other North Bay talent in the form of Coghill, Vendetti & Walsh.  Tickets are available at The Fox and Fiddle and are $10 in advance and $13 at the door.

I recently spoke with Sean Kelly about his trip home and his successful career.  Click on the player below to hear some of our chat.

A Christmas Story

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Now that we’re into December, the Christmas specials and holiday movies will become ever more frequent on TV.  As a child, one of the highlights of the Christmas season for me was sitting down with my family to watch the classic holiday TV programs.  The original “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” was always a favourite, and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” still makes me smile, but there is one movie that rises above all others for me.

I popped the 20th anniversary DVD of “A Christmas Story” into the player last night and watched my favourite holiday film for the first time in a few years.  I am amazed at how many people I talk to that have not seen this movie.  It is a classic, and the DVD extras are great, especially the interviews with cast members and mini-documentaries on the leg lamp and the famed BB gun at the centre of the movie.

Do yourself a favour.  If you haven’t seen this 1983 classic, rent or buy the DVD.  And if you’ve seen it before, maybe it’s time to revisit one of the best holiday flicks ever made!
