A great new local band

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

There’s a great new local band on the North Bay music scene.  Brave Astronaut is a four-piece rock band with a new self-titled CD in stores and on ITunes.  The album is solid, with my favourite tracks being “Winter Wait” and “Oh Brother”.

The Brave Astronaut CD Release Party is coming up this Saturday, September 4th at 8:00pm at the White Water Gallery on Main Street West.  Tickets are just five bucks at the door.

Check out Brave Astronaut at their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/braveastronaut and listen for our interview with Marianne and Jon this week on the Fox morning show!

You Can’t Be Serious!

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Last night I lost my cool.  It all started with a trip to the store with my family to check out laptops.  My old computer has been a little slow lately (I know it happens with age), so we were looking to find out about upgrading.  Anyhow, my husband and I were speaking to a sales rep while our girls played together off to the side.  Then, I heard this woman in the aisle beside us say “stop your whining right now, stop it, you’re too loud and you need to be quiet”.  I looked over and there was only the woman and my daughters.  You can’t be serious.  I picked up my 5 year old who was ready to cry, and said to the woman “are you talking to my kids?”  She said yes, and without even looking at me and continued to point her finger in the face of my young daughter while telling her to be quiet right now.  I not so politely let her know that she had absolutely no right to speak to my daughter that way, and asked if she had kids.  She answered yes, but I seriously had my doubts as I mentioned that I was sure they were angels every time she took them out.  Anyway, this woman would not stop, she continued to lecture my children, so I let her know she was a nasty witch (I had to keep it somewhat clean despite my temper, as my children were present) and proceeded to leave the store with my crying children.

I could not believe what had just taken place.  I let my girls know they did the right thing by not responding to this person as I believe she must have serious issues.  I could never imagine talking to someone’s kids that way, even a friend or family member.  There have been many occasions where I have averted noisy kids in stores.  I’ve gone down other aisles and waited till they’ve moved on.  This woman seriously crossed the line.

It’s always nice to receive pictures from our listeners.  I had a few pictures come in from Jami and her dad that were taken at Memorial Gardens from The Fox seats…and it looks like they are the perfect spot to catch a game!

We have another great season of hockey lined up with our Nipissing Lakers…you can guarantee that the Fox will be there all season long!

Send us your pictures any time, we’d be happy to post them in our photo gallery.

It’s harder than it looks!

Mitch and I tried out Pole Dancing, and I must say, it’s harder than it looks!  10 minutes on the pole felt like about 2 hours at the gym!  Joany over at Feminicity sent us a clip of what real pole dancing should look like.   Trust me, what I did yesterday looked nothing like this!  Video of our experience is in the works!

Pole Dancing at Feminicity

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Today’s the day.  I’ve got my stilettos on and I’m ready to hit the pole!  At least I was before a friend sent me a link.  When pole dancing goes bad.

We’ll post some pics tomorrow.  In the mean time, wish me luck!

If you’re a fan of Eric Clapton, you’ll be happy to know there’s a new album coming.  “Clapton” will be out on September 27th and includes collaborations with Steve Winwood, JJ Cale, Sheryl Crow and others.  Click on the link below for all the details.

Is it a Lion or a Tiger?

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Remember watching Napoleon Dynamite when he’s talking about a “Liger”?   What’s a Liger? “It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed… bred for its skills in magic.”  We’ll soon find out!

Reports claim that 2 Ligers were confiscated from a private zoo in Taipei.  The Tigress gave birth to 3 with only 2 surviving and the owner of the zoo is facing fines for breeding protected animals.

The owner of the Zoo is claiming that the animals were not artificially bred, and that the male lion and female tigress had been kept in the same area for the past few years.

This is an interesting story.  On one hand, you have groups complaining that the fines should be steep for cross breeding, especially due to the fact that these are both protected animals.  On the other hand, this is a whole new breed of animal, with a wide realm of research possibilities.

Now, if they could just cross breed a cow and a pig so that we could have a steak-bacon hybrid!  What do you think?

My Unwritten Rule

juicestand.jpg

Mitch and I were on our way for an Office Ambush and passed a juice stand on McGibbon Street.  I have an unwritten rule about kids who put forth the effort to create a juice stand.  You have to stop.  It is an entrepreneurial spirit that these kids have and as a community I think it is important that we nourish that initiative.

Grace and Rachel told us that they were trying to keep busy, and were both looking forward to school this year.  They had variety as well, fruit punch or orange juice and a large box of books all for a quarter a piece.

It was nice to see how polite these girls both were, and we were more than happy to buy a glass…with a tip of course.  So the next time you see kids out with a juice stand, buy a glass.  You’ll make their day  :)
