Stones In Exile Is A Must See
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
I’ve made no secret on this very blog that “Exile On Main Street” is not only my favourite Rolling Stones album, but one of the best rock albums of all time. Now this classic double disc has a rockumentary to go with it and it is brilliant.
In one of the best moments on the “Stones In Exile” DVD, Keith Richards talks about his working relationship with Mick Jagger. Keith paints Mick as the type of guy who is organized, who likes to have a plan. Richards, on the other hand, likes to take things a little more loosey goosey, to let things unfold with less structure. Keith’s quote about the dynamic is spot on - “Mick is Rock and I’m Roll”. I laughed out loud at that quote and was completely drawn in by many of the moments in this documentary.
Much of the movie has the Stones telling the behind the scenes tales of the making of “Exile On Main Street”, with plenty of pictures and film from the era. It really makes you feel like you are along for the ride, sitting in on the making of a rock classic.
Some of today’s crop of rock stars give their take on “Exile”, from Jack White to Will I. Am, to Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon, and you can see the admiration in the way they speak about the album.
Life in the south of France, the parties, the drugs, the drink, and the hard work of making a double album – all of it is exposed in “Stones In Exile”, warts and all.
If you’re a rock fan, you have to see this movie.
One Unbelievable Student
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Mitch and I had the chance to meet a student by the name of Tom Stevens today. We had heard about his perfect attendance, but had to find out for ourselves if it was really true. I mean come on, to go from junior kindergarten all the way through high school with a perfect record, never missing a day of school, it’s just unbelievable. Well, believe it! We met with Tom and his mom Rachel and found out he enjoys school and seeing his friends each day. He also gave us the secret to his success. We asked him how he did it all those years, he said “just show up”. Simple as that.
At the age of 18 Tom has never cut class, never had a parent/teacher conference request and runs his own Maple Syrup business in Garden Village. What an outstanding student! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors Tom!
