They say a picture speaks a thousand words. This photo was taken this week by Tim Sheaff downtown and shows an elderly women getting a ticket for $109 for crossing the street while “Do Not Walk” was flashing. Meanwhile, an alleged drug dealer stands unmolested in the background between them.

This one is going around the Internet these days. We actually received it from a couple of people. It’s an odd, yet touching relationship between a cat and a deer. There are some places in town where deer and cats co-exist in the same neighbourhood but do they do this? Have a look.

A woman in England with an inoperable brain tumor is spending $60,000 on plastic surgery so she can die looking like movie star Demi Moore. Twenty-nine year old Lisa Connell will use the money her mom Angela had saved up for Lisa’s wedding to pay for her new look. Lisa will undergo liposuction, a breast enhancement and eyebrow lift, plus work on her skin and teeth to fulfill her dream. Lisa’s mom says, “I really don’t want Lisa to put herself through this. She is a beautiful girl and she doesn’t need the surgery. It was really hard for me to accept when she said she wanted to do this but she is my daughter, I love her and I want to bring joy to her life for however long she may have left.”

Rags-to-riches romance ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ swept the Oscars on Sunday, winning eight awards including the prize for best picture in a Hollywood triumph for a movie that almost failed to get released. Sean Penn picked up Best Actor for MILK and Kate Winslet won for The Reader. See the complete list here.

Hey, who dressed like slumdogs and who dressed like millionaires at the Oscars?

SLUMDOGS: Mary Hart’s dress looked like she tore down her drapes and made a gown out of them; Miley Cryus…gosh…large fish scales; Philip Seymore Hoffman..black suit, black tie and a toque?; Beyonce…black dress with gold leaves…. and at the bottom… a lamp shade; Heidi Klum…wow…red dress that looked like an explosion caused the top and bottom to blow out.. MILLIONAIRES: Robert Downey…black suit, white shirt, black tie..very classy; Angelina.. sleek black dress that showed off her arm tattoos; Marissa Tomei …flowing silver gown with long train; Ann Hathaway…form fitting gold/silver shiny one with no train…have a look at all the red carpet fun right here. 

 The CRD has run out of the “approved” Blue Boxes and has given us a reprieve if we are still using the over sized ones. That will not last long though because they get new ones this week, so two to three weeks and you have to change to the shorter ones. Here is a link to all of the places you can get one. They are four bucks and blue bags are 50 cents. Happy recycling!

We feel bad for Mickey Rourke this morning. His constant companion and best friend Loki the chihuahua passed away at the age of 18. He loved his dogs so much he even mentioned them in his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. We almost lost our Bailey about year and a half ago due to complications after leg surgery. She is doing fantastic now and still goes to her “job” at the Garth Homer Centre, walking with the clients there. She doesn’t walk anymore so they push her around in a human wheelchair. You should see the looks she gets on the Galloping Goose!

There is a Facebook tribute page set up now for Tamara Jones who was hit by a car last weekend on Admirals and lost her life. She was only 17. Her 15 year old sister, Shorene, is in critical condition and is the only one that has the answers as to why they were lying in the middle of a darkened road at 10pm at night.
