This contamination has been linked to at least seven deaths in the U.S. and now the product ban has spread to Canada. Check out this to find out if any of these products are in your cupboard.

Frank Leversedge

Let me tell you how much our family has loved the World Cup Youth Soccer Tournament. Every spring, the Cordova Bay Soccer Club puts on this unique event that brings together youth soccer players from all over Greater Victoria to play their hearts out for one weekend. Our boys cry when it’s over. This one event was the vision of one man 23 years ago, Frank Leversedge.  A sudden heart attack at Lochside Park, where he spent most of his 30 years volunteering, took him from us at the age of 74. His list of accomplishments are too numerous to mention. The amount of hours he dedicated to the young people of our community is staggering. There was no paycheque at the end of the day, just a love of the game and the young people that he helped so much. His last big contribution was to spearhead the construction of the new artificial turf field that will be named in his honour. We are much poorer for his passing and we could all learn a thing or two about selfless service from Frank Leversedge. We just want to to express our deepest sympathies to Peggy, Fraser, Renton and their families for their loss.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at Lochside Park on Friday, January 16, 2009, at 3pm.

It’s time you had that talk again with your child about the dangers of the internet. Saanich police have charged a 30 year old man after he lured a child over the internet. She is under 11 years old and fortunatley was not harmed. Police are warning parents not to give their children “unsupervised access” to the internet. If you want to know how to keep your child safe from predators click here.

(from our archieves:  The study also revealed one-third of kids – 40 per cent of boys and 26 per cent of girls – have seen pornography online and 26 per cent have been exposed to hateful messages – click here for full article

top75.jpgWow, what a lame list of the 75 things every man should do at least once in his life from Esquire magazine. We won’t bore you with all 75, but here are the magazine’s Top 10:

  1. Play rugby
  2. Repair an appliance
  3. Fly the red-eye flight
  4. Fly a Cessna
  5. Make a list of seventy-five things you want to do before you die. It’s hard.
  6. Fast for three days. Drink water.
  7. Drive the Great Ocean Road in southern Australia.
  8. Make a perfect omelet.
  9. Drive by yourself from coast to coast.
  10. Recognize the accomplishments of others.

DisHonorable mentions…. Live in a hotel suite for a week; shoplift and attend a funeral of someone you didn’t know. Yikes!

New words – which aren’t words!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

We talked about some new not -so- words floating and how they should be used more in 2009…we like the last one the best!

PEDALESTRIAN – A person who rides their bicycle on the sidewalk.

VACATIONSHIP – A relationship formed during, and usually continuing after an Ocean Jet vacation.

YELLULAR - Speaking with a raised voice in response to a bad cellphone connection, in the misguided hope that talking louder will improve the connection.

ELEVENSION – One notch higher than tension.

Tribute to Celebrities who we’ve lost

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

The year is still young and it’s always the time that we reflect on those we may have lost in 2008. The Oscars always do a tribute to celebrities who have passed away during the year. We thought this one though was especially touching. It was produced by Turner Classic Movies. We bet you’ll watch and there will be at least one or two stars that you didn’t know had left us.
