Chemainus school children know about kindness
Monday, January 28th, 2008

A little black and white pit bull named Holly is teaching Chemainus school children about kindness, compassion and the indomitable spirit of animals.
Holly was shot several times with a pellet gun and dumped in the parking lot of the Country Grocer store in Cobble Hill on Christmas Eve. Holiday shoppers called the SPCA, and emergency response officer Rick Hunter arrived to find the dog bleeding profusely from her face, back and thigh. She was also covered in mange and severely emaciated. She was lactating heavily and it was obvious that she had just had puppies. Her mange riddled babies were eventually located and handed over to the SPCA.
Holy’s story really touched the hearts of kids at Chemainus school. Children were given their choice of 10 different presenters for the school’s annual Community Activity Days, and the SPCA was by far the most popular.
“Here we have a dog who was abused, neglected and left for dead, and has every reason in the world to fear people,” said Sandi Trent, manager of the BC SPCA’s Cowichan and District Branch. “Instead, this gentle animal has shown an endless capacity for forgiveness.”
This has certainly softened our view a bit concerning the Pit Bull breed.
hello from the OCEAN Jet to Mexico
Tuesday, January 8th, 2008
Yes, its just us checking in from the beautiful Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in the Mayan. We have had a great week so far and all of the Ocean listeners who came with us seem to be having a blast. Our kids just want to swim all the time…we even went on a river inner tubing adventure and almost got swallowed by a sea turtle. Thought we share a couple of photos and we will try and check in again soon! Wish you were here….

Hey, we hope you had a great New Year! This is the first entry on our blog in 2008 and we thought we’d take things slow. Haven’t you ever wanted to watch something grow right before your very eyes? Well, how about MusselCam! You get to see a mussel grow in real time. It’s about as exciting as watching paint dry. You might think it’s lame but the Prince Edward Island web cam has been named one of the top-25 most interesting web cams worldwide. Mussels grow very slowly so people are encouraged to check back often…..zzzzzzz
