Airport Road to be Closed for Next 5 or 6 Hours

A motor vehicle collision involving two vehicle happened around 10 o clock Friday morning roughly one kilometer from the Victor M Power Airport on Airport Road.
There are confirmed injuries and there are persons who have been taken to hospital.
Timmins Police Service and other emergency services are on scene in the early stages of the investigation. here are confirmed injuries and there are persons who have been taken to hospital.
Airport Road will remain closed for most of the day, and no one will be permitted through.
The Road is closed at La Forest Rd. Only residents with local access will be permitted with police escort to return to their homes.
People scheduled to take a flights are asked to contact their airline about the situation.
It is unknown at this time when the road will re-open.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or have any information is asked to contact the Timmins Police Service 705-264-1201.

T& DH Welcomes Eight Third Year Medical Students

The Timmins and District Hospital (T&DH) is welcoming eight third year medical students. They will be spending the next eight months living and learning in our community. This is the sixth group of third year medical students to spend eight months at Timmins and District Hospital since 2007.
During that time the students will be completing primary care sessions with various family physicians in the community as well as sessions with specialists.
In 2006, a partnership developed between the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and the Timmins and District Hospital (T&DH) resulting in T&DH becoming a teaching site for learners from NOSM. The patients, physicians and staff play a vital role in educating future doctors and health-care providers to be competent and caring practitioners.
“We are delighted to be able to continue our strong affiliations with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM),” said Roger Walker, President and CEO of Timmins and District Hospital. “We are pleased to report that since NOSM began we have recruited thirteen Family Medicine residents who have chosen Timmins as a permanent place to work and live upon completion of their residency programs over the next few years

Reward for Arson Info in Melba Township

Ten-thousand dollars is up for grabs for people with good, credible information and a good conscience.
The owners of High Falls Camp in Melba Township are offering a private reward for information that leads to the arrest of arsonists who burned down their camp in 2011.
Sometime between December 28, 2010 and January 9, 2011, unknown person(s) attended an isolated hunting camp, commonly referred to as High Falls Camp, situated in Melba Township and set it on fire, causing over twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000) in damage.
Investigators urge anyone with any information regarding the person(s) responsible for the burning down of High Falls Camp to contact the South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police Detachment at 705-235-3345.
Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
This reward will be apportioned as deemed just by the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services for the Province of Ontario and the Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police.
Demolition In Schumacher Set For Thursday

Chartrand Equipment will begin demolition of the former Schumacher head office of District School Board Ontario North East on Thursday, August 30th, beginning at 8:30 am. Originally Schumacher High School, the building suffered a major fire on July 6th.
“This building will be greatly missed by Board staff, and by the Schumacher community.” says Board Chair Doug Shearer. “As we say farewell to the past, we look forward to an even brighter future.”
Demolition should take approximately two weeks to complete.
Members of the media are invited to come out to take any photos/video as the demolition begins.
AMBER Alert issued for missing boys

Peel Regional Police have issued an Amber Alert
for two brothers, aged 8 and 9, from Brampton, Ont., allegedly
abducted by their mother from their foster home.
Police allege that Randa Hammadieh, 33, was with two unknown
males when she took her two sons at 11:20 a.m. on Friday.
Investigators say they were driving a silver 2006 Dodge Caravan
were heading toward Highway 410
in Brampton.
Hammadieh is described as having a heavy build and standing
five-foot-five.
Louis Gallego-Hammadieh, 9, is four-foot-10, weighs 85 pounds and
has short black hair and brown eyes.
He has round eyeglasses with metal frames.
Benny Gallego-Hammadieh, 8, is four feet tall, weighs 60 pounds
and has short, curly black hair and brown eyes.
They were last seen wearing T-shirts and jeans, though it’s not
known what colours.
Police are asking anyone who sees them or has any information to
call 911.
Timmins rolling out red carpet for NOBAs

Our hotels, streets and restaurants will be full of business people from around the north for the Northern Ontario Business Awards.
The 26th annual NOBAs are a celebration in buisness excellence complete with a black tie gala Oct. 4th at the McIntyre Curling Club. Publisher of the Northern Ontario Business magazine Patricia Mills said over 500 people will grace the city.
“This is a gathering place business people come once a year to meet old friends but also an event where professional bonds and relationships are created.” “I’ve seen million dollar deals get signed at the gala and we couldn’t be prouder to host it in Timmins.”
Usually, the event switches from city to city each year but organizers planned to host in our city to coincide with the 100th anniversary.
Mayor Tom Laughren said the event is a great stepping stone for younger businesses to get their name out and make the big deals.
“It’s a first class event that I’ve emceed the past year. the people who operate these businesses on a daily basis deserve recognition.”
The McIntyre Curling Club will host the event Oct 4th with a Welcoming Reception Oct 3rd at the Timmins Museum national Exhibition Centre.
2020 Strategic Plan Online

The city wants your opinion on the 2020 strategic plan a little differently this year.. digitally!
Since the launch of their twitter and facebook accounts, online consultant Denis Landry says the community is responding really well to the use of social media.
Twitter specifically has seen the most action with new followers every day.
Although the online campaign was launch just 2 weeks ago, even just in the initial stages right they are making incredible headway with the responsive Timmins community.

Airport Space Balloon Site Coming Along Well

Ground has been broken at the Timmins Victor M Power Airport, and its being done in a hurry.
With construction needing to be done before December 31st, local construction company Paul’s Contracting are working hard finish a launch pad the size of the Effile tower, 2 work shops, and an office building to be used by the Canadian Space Agency.
Airport manager Dave Dayment adds that the buildings will be owned by the city, and will be leased to the Canadian space agency for he duration of the launch program; after which they will be rented and used at the discretion of the town.
Dayment adds that the CSA will be visiting the site in September to see how construction is going and to plan their first launch. This
state of the art facility is one of only a handful of other similar launch sites in the world.
