Dec 24 2010: Regular weekday schedule to 6:00 pm. The last one hour routes will leave the terminal at 5:00 pm. The last half hour routes will leave the terminal at 5:30 pm.
Dec 25 2010: No Service
Dec 26 2010: Boxing Day Sunday Service
Dec 27 to Dec 31: Regular weekday service
Jan 1 2011: No Service
Jan 2 2011: Sunday Service

Kirkland Lake School Bus Collision

Just before 4 oclock this afternoon a school bus in Kirkland Lake was hit from behind by a taxi.
The bus was carrying 11 children aged six to 11.
Two children complaining of minor injuries were taken to hospital and released to their parents. Neither driver was injured in the incident.

Car Theft

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Two would-be Quebec car thieves have been charged with theft after a joint investigation by local OPP and OnStar.
24 year old Francois Connelly and a 17 year old female, both of Rouyn Noranda, stole a vehicle North West of Montreal on December 8th. OnStar was able to locate and disable the vehicle just outside of Iroquois Falls.
They both face charges of theft over $5 thousand dollars

Canada Post Deadlines

If you’ve got some gifts that need to be shipped out of town, Canada Post wants to make sure they get there in time for Christmas.
Lise Pilon says the last mailing date for cards locally is December 20th, within the province is the 17th and outside the province is the 16th.
If you’re mailing parcels and don’t want to pay for priority post, you need to have them mailed by tomorrow. Priority post needs to be mailed no later then December 23rd.

Northern College Introducing Applied Research

Northern College students are going to be getting some “hands-on” learning through the implementation of applied research.

College President Fred Gibbons says students will be working on solving industry problems, and will benefit from the additional exposure to the workforce.

The programs involved are mining, welding engineering, civil engineering and waste water management.

The South Porcupine OPP has some tips to stay safe this busy holiday shopping season.

Constable Marc Depatie says to shop in daylight hours and when stores are least busy if possible, remember to cover your PIN when using your debit or credit card and never set your purchases down unattended.

Depatie says to remember the slogan ’Lock it Or Lose it” and make sure your car doors are locked.

Christmas Fire Safety

Christmas decorating can create some unnecessary fire hazards if you’re not careful.

Chief Fire Prevention Officer, Dan Kaiser reminds you to only use U-L-C or C-S-A approved lights, plug electrical items directly into a wall outlet rather than using a power bar or extension cord and DON’T use anything with a frayed cord.

Snowmobiles on City Roads

Snowmobiles are not allowed on any roads unless they are part of the OFSC trail system.

Anyone caught on the roads will be fined $110 dollars and you’ll have to arrange pick up for your machine as you won’t be allowed to drive it home.

Current Ice Conditions

We have plenty of snow so far but not enough quality ice to accomodate your winter activities.

Kees Polls with the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority says we need a few straight weeks of cold weather to build up enough ice for the rivers and lakes to be safe enough to venture onto.
