SNEAKY WAYS TO SAVE YOU MONEY
Friday, April 8th, 2011
SNEAKY WAYS TO SAVE CASH:
• Mascara: It can last for 5 months if you swirl the brush as you pull it out instead of pumping it up & down. Dipping the tube in boiling water for about 15 seconds will make it gooey again.
• Nail Polish: Since heat and sunlight destroy it by separating the ingredients, keep your bottles in the fridge and you will more than double their lifespan.
• Perfume: Direct light makes perfume lose its scent and start to smell funky, but keeping the bottles in the original box or in a medicine cabinet can get you 3 extra years out of it.
• Razors: Keep your blade sharper for longer by dipping it in rubbing alcohol after each use. Don’t leave your razor where it will get sprayed with water and is more likely to rust.
• Running Shoes: You can quadruple their lifespan by keeping them at room temperature when they’re off your feet. Cold air breaks down the soles and messes up the air pockets.

HOW TO BEAUTIFY YOUR FACE FOR SPRING
Thursday, March 31st, 2011
1. Toss the old: Before your bring in the new, you’ve got to clean out the old. Last spring’s sunscreen is so last spring. “Toss anything with an SPF that’s more than a year old, especially if it’s separated or a weird consistency because it can lose its efficacy,” suggests beauty blogger Karla Sugar. You can also trash any dried-out skincare products with crusty caps and foundations that don’t look the way they used to. “You can tell when makeup has gone bad when it changes consistency, color, or smell,” advised Sugar. “But powders, for instance, almost never go bad.”
2. Build a better toolbox: Visibility is the key to a new and improved beauty regimen. “The same principles you use to organize your closet are true for your makeup: you won’t use what you can’t see,” says Sugar. For organization, she believes in the power of home goods stores. “Buy a small toolbox,” says Sugar. “They tend to have shallow drawers which are perfect for storing makeup.” She also recommends small vases for storing make-up brushes, brush side up. ”
3. Hold the oil: You know that layer of cream you lathered on your face in winter? Dead weight. “The thick, emollient creams that work well in winter are often too heavy come spring,” warns Annie Tomlin of Bella Sugar. “I think many people think that one cream will serve their needs all year, but our skin responds to the seasons, so it needs to change with time, too.” For spring, try an oil-free product with glycerin, a light-weight ingredient that moisturizes without clogging pores.
4. SPF better: A new breed of sun-protecting products have emerged in recent months. Instead of the standard lotions, now sunscreen comes as a mousse for a lighter all-over covering, sprays for SPF touch-ups without smearing your makeup, and serums to block the sun without leaving a chalky residue. Extra strength SPF is also doing double-time in make-up primers, self-tanners, concealers and even lipsticks. “But skip the heavy, pore-clogging foundations and powders,” advises Fashionista beauty editor Cheryl Wischhover. “Instead try a lighter, tinted moisturizer with SPF.”
5. Go green: Natural beauty isn’t just a passing fad anymore. “I see more women giving eco-friendly, sustainable skin care another try,” .Tomlin says. “Today’s formulas are infinitely better than those of even five years ago.” Look for the words “paraben-free” on lotions and lipsticks, and “mineral-based” on loose powder bases. Both are free of preservatives found in standard skincare and cosmetics that have been linked to certain hormone-based health conditions.
6. Add neon: Lips are getting electrified this season. On the runways of Jill Sander, Fendi and Diane Von Furstenburg, bold, lightening-bright pouts were the hottest accessory adorning spring lines. “Invest in an orange lipstick or gloss this season,” says Wischhover, “whether it’s pinky-coral or full-on orange.” But traffic-light lips require sharp definition, so use a lip primer and matching liner around your lip line to keep the shape and prevent the color from spreading.
7. Start your lab: The latest crop of anti-aging products sound more like chemistry kits than beauty products, but that’s not a bad thing. Peptides, which produce collagen and elastin to tighten the skin, and antioxidants, which fight free-radicals responsible for fine lines, are becoming popular ingredients in anti-wrinkle creams and serums. But the biggest buzz in beauty? “Plant stem cells are the hot new thing,” says Wischhover. “That one’s been coming slowly over the past few years, but it’s about to be much more common.” A small number of pricy products on the market, contain non-embryonic stem cells derived from plant extracts that promise to increase the skin’s ability to regenerate and reverse the signs of aging. But if you can’t afford to drop $100 on your skin just yet, buy some time and lather on the SPF mousse.

Have Gorgeous Skin Everyday In 10 Minutes!!!

Step 1: Cleanse
Dr. Schweiger says there’s no need for a fancy, expensive makeup remover, so cut down on time and your beauty budget by thoroughly washing with a gentle cleanser that removes products and oil but doesn’t over-dry.
Time spent: three minutes
Step 2: Moisturize
No matter what your skin type, you should slather on a light lotion to your face and neck every night. For this, Dr. Schweiger says to look for oil-free products that are also fragrance-free.
Time spent: two minutes
Step 3: Apply retinoids
“Of all the anti-aging and photo damage correction products on the market, retinoids have the most scientific evidence,” explains Dr. Schweiger. He says retinoid creams, either prescription or over-the-counter, can be the most beneficial. “Retin-A, Renova, and Tazorac have been shown, in one month or two, to decrease fine lines and wrinkles.” Three times a week use a pea-size amount on your face, and once or twice a week apply the cream under your eyes to banish those dark circles. Retinoids should always be applied at night since they can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
Time spent: three minutes
Step 4: Hydrate
“Toners are not necessary—they over-dry the skin and can actually increase oil production, and then the cycle is hard to break,” says Dr. Schweiger. But he does suggest a final application of moisturizer after the retinoid cream to prevent redness and flaking, especially in the winter when skin is drier.
Time spent: two minutes
Really, that’s it! Ten minutes of devoted attention is all your face needs before bed. If you follow these steps every evening, an a.m. quick rinse with face wash and a light SPF will get you out the door and on your way to a gorgeous glow.
Now your beautiful!!!

9 Products To Beautify Your Face Found In Your Kitchen…
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010
White Sugar:
According to Dr. Patricia Wexler, exfoliating is one of the most important things we can do for the health of our skin. Best-selling author and makeup artist Carmindy reveals that plain old white sugar is one of the best exfoliators around. Keep a jar of it in your shower. Take a handful and gently massage your entire body with it, using a soft washcloth. Rinse and the sugar crystals simply melt away down the drain. So much better than eating it!
Olive Oil:
The ancient Romans knew what they were doing when they slathered olive oil on every part of their bodies, saving a little for their hair. Keep a plastic ketchup bottle (the kind you see in old diners) filled with olive oil in your bathroom. Add a few drops of lavender oil (or whatever fragrance you prefer). After exfoliating, pat your skin until it’s almost dry, then massage a small amount of oil all over your body. Result? Skin like velvet. After your hair is dry, massage a few drops of oil in your palms and, bending over, scrunch a bit of it into the ends.
Honey:
Who knew that honey is equally effective for treating colds and improving your looks? Applying honey all over your face is beneficial, since it contains vitamins and moisturizes. It’s also a natural antibiotic that can kill bacteria. Add a little white sugar and exfoliate with it in the shower, too.
Lemon Juice:
There are so many things you can do with lemon juice (preferably freshly squeezed). Soak your nails in them (without polish) to reduce yellowing, and brush your teeth with a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice for whiter teeth. And best of all, take a tablespoon or two of freshly squeezed lemon juice and mix into a tall glass of warm water. Drink it before ingesting anything else, first thing in the morning. It’s a great way to hydrate and jump-start your system.
Crisco (or some other vegetable shortening):
Crisco is a surprisingly effective makeup remover, and it’s also highly effective in treating eczema. Apply the shortening to infected areas, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse, and apply a little olive oil.
Yogourt:
Yogourt is a highly effective treatment for the common skin condition rosacea. It has the ability to soften the skin while calming the redness — especially after eating something spicy or enjoying a little too much heart-healthy red wine. Simply apply it as a mask, and leave on for about 15 minutes. Rinse, and apply a light layer of olive oil.
Parsley and Mint:
Bad breath is common, and usually avoidable. Steer clear of the store-bought mouth rinses and gargles, as they tend to make matters worse. Simply brush your tongue when you brush your teeth, drink lots of water to keep your mouth hydrated and chew on a few sprigs of parsley or mint, since studies have shown that these freshen breath instantly. Keep a plastic bag filled with the sprigs in your purse at all times.
Green Tea Bags:
Green tea is one of the best things you can drink (along with lots of water, and red wine in moderation). For a great de-puffing eye treatment, try soaking a few bags in water and sticking them in the freezer. Place on your eyes, lower the lights and … relax.
Apple Cider Vinegar:
Exfoliating is one of the best things we can do for our skin. Chemical peels done at your dermatologist’s office are highly effective, though often expensive. But a simple application of apple cider vinegar works, too. Soak a cotton ball in it and apply all over the face, keeping away from the eyes; leave on for at least 45 minutes. After you rinse, follow with a light application of olive oil.
