High marks for the Northeast Cancer Centre.

In the latest report from the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario, the northeast region ranked high in several categories.

Access time from diagnosis-to-treatment for early stage breast cancer is the best in the province and the Northeast Cancer Centre partnered with the Sault Area Hospital to achieve a 100-percent mark for a special radiation treatment for breast cancer patients.

The local centre was also recognized for top notch outpatient care as well as well as services designed to help patients manage symptoms.

However it’s not all good news….participation rates for colonoscopy and integrated cancer screening are below the provincial average.

The Centre is taking steps to improve access to treatment following initial screening…especially for those with a family history.
