Greater Sudbury Fire Services is again warning residents to be extremely careful if doing any outdoor burning.

Last weekend fire crews had to respond to six bush fires and five burning complaints.

Fire prevention officer Mitch Theriault says it’s very important you abide by the burning by-law so the resources of the fire service aren’t being wasted.

The burning by-law doesn’t allow any fires within 20 feet of a structure and has to be kept 16 to 17 feet away from a bush area.

Theriault says in some instances you can be responsible for the cost of fighting a fire.

To put it in perspective…if a fire crew and fire truck respond…that can cost a few hundred dollars, but if an M-N-R water bomber has to be called in…that can cost $2,000 for every water drop.
