Over 55-hundred federal jobs were cut yesterday across Canada, including 432 within 23 departments or agencies in Ontario.

The workers are all members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (P-SAC).

A local union representative can confirm there are definitely cuts in Sudbury and across other parts of the Northeast, plus some federal offices will close and become centralized to Toronto.

It’s still unclear how many jobs are affected here, but the P-SAC rep could confirm pink slips were handed out to workers at FedNor, Health Canada, Immigration and the Department of National Defence, all in Sudbury.

There are five thousand members of P-SAC in Northern Ontario.
