2011 has been a banner year for the City of Greater Sudbury when it comes to physician recruitment.
Health Sciences North Chief of staff Dr.Chris Bourdon says to date 23 new doctors have arrived in town topping last year’s recruitment high of 22.
The new physicians include family doctors and specialists in such fields of expertise as cardiac care, critical care, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, plastic surgery and internal medicine.
Chief of staff Dr.Chris Bourdon says there are a number of factors drawing doctors here including committed partners in the city and the medical school as well as the mandate at Health Sciences North to include more teaching and research.
Eleven of the 23 new doctors are originally from Northern Ontario or were trained in the northeast through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
