How we react to climate change is the topic of a 3-day conference underway here in the city.

One of the conference organizers, Myles Carter says the focus is not entirely on the science involved, but instead more on how we deal with the changes and how those changes effect the most vulnerable in our community.

Carter says they’re bringing together representatives from the city, the Climate Change Consortium and the Social Planning Council in hopes of coming away with a concrete plan.

The 3-day conference wraps up tomorrow.

Since the Physician Assistant came on board at the Sudbury Regional Hospital two years ago, wait times in the emergency room have improved.

Robert Fox uses his medical skills in the blue-green, high volume area of the department to assess patients, perform exams, provide treatment and order tests.

Physician Assistants are a cross between a doctor and a nurse.

Fox sees himself as just another health care professional to see patients, but his co-workers treat him as a resident or a doctor.

Sudbury M-P-P Rick Bartolucci announced one-time funding of 241-thousand dollars towards the Physician Assistant Project at the hospital.

He says it means those coming into the emergency department will be treated in a more timely fashion.

Fox works in the blue-green zone of the hospital’s Emergency Department, mainly because this is a high volume area with more patients.

Hospital Medical Director, Dr. Rob Lepage says Fox could work in the other two zones, but it’s more efficient to have him where more patients are waiting for care.

The hospital hopes to use part of the money towards adding another PA to the staff.

Physician Assistants are still fairly new in Canada, but have been practicing in the United States since the mid 60s.

Fox says he chose the profession because he wanted to be a pioneer in his field.

He’s been at the Sudbury Regional Hospital since January 2009.

The injury riddled Wolves begin a mini-homestand tonight against Sarnia, a club that beat them 5-3 on Monday.

Sudbury was missing six regulars from the lineup because of injury and suspension against the Sting.

Of those, the only player who will be playing tonight is Josh Leivo, now that he’s finished a two-game suspension.

There’s no word on when any of the injured players will be back.

There are only four home games left of the regular season for the Sudbury Wolves.
